Reports from a cast member, Cindi Verbelun:
--Packed house
--Ted Neeley got a standing ovation during the Overture
--Ben Vereen awesome
--Yvonne Elliman note-perfect
--Barry Dennen's Pilate still memorable
--Clint Holmes a decent Zealot
--Jack Black brought down the house as Herod
--You have not heard "Gethsemane" unless you heard Ted's version last night!
More soon.
I'm so jealous of those who went!
Even though I claim to be a crazed Sondheim fan, I have a sick obsession of JCS!!! I love it!
"You have not heard "Gethsemane" unless you heard Ted's version last night!"
I assume that he has gotten better over these many years because he bored me to tears in the movie version.

He moved me to tears in 1973...and continues to do so now. The concert was recorded, both audio and video, and there is supposedly, an offical release planned. Here's hoping.
Jesus
Ted Neeley looks dead in that photo.
I know we are supposed to suspend disbelief when viewing a theatrical venture, but, really, a 62 year old man playing someone who supposedly died at the age of 33?
JCS is my favorite musical of all time and I would have given my right arm to have been there. I really do hope that they release the dvd/cd. I am going to go see the "Farewell Tour" in November.
Question though: Did the concert have the same staging as the Gail Whats-her-name London staging?
Gawd I hope not, Spider.
Her production was PAINFUL to watch.
I hope it gets released.
Sounds like it was awesome! They need to take this cast on the farewell tour, I'd love to see Jack Black. At least we'll be seeing Ted, I love that guy. What a blessing it would be if Vereen went on tour as Judas.
yay Jesus Christ! :) i really do want them to release this. my friend & i always said Jack Black would make a great Herod
