I adore Jill Paice.
I'm a little confused as to how she is able to continue to originate roles in London. It seems like it's a pretty big deal for an American actress to go to London and do a show. I know there are big time trades involved...but it seems like she has some sort of exemption or something. Does anybody have the info?
another question, It seems like the only reason americans get to perform in London is if they are huge stars. I believe there is something specific written in the rules written by equity. How did she even get considered for Woman in White when she was literally just fresh out of college. Im so glad she did, becuase she's fantastic. I'm just curious.

Posted: 4/7/08 at 1:30amI always wondered about her. It's not like with Drew Sarich or Michael McCarthy (thanks to marriage). No article has ever really addressed how she's able to do that...how frustrating!

Posted: 4/7/08 at 1:30amI may be completely wrong in this, and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm not, but the union rules here in the US are more stringent than in the UK... the "trades" are required by Equity here, not the in London. You have it backwards.

The equity trade is for the benifit of US equity. UK Equity doesn't really need that.
She could be there via a work visa too.

I thought I read somewhere that she was born in England.
UK/European Equity doesn't seem to care that much about that sort of thing, look at all the bios that list German and European tours in the credits.

Jill was born in America.
I am still willing to bet that UK doesn't care about the equity thing and that she is there under a work visa.

She's obviously there under a work visa. Even under a trade agreement with Equity she would need a work visa since she's not an English citizen.

She was eiather the last babbett or one of the last. Anyway, I heard her speak and her accent is clearly Europian. I couldn't spot exactly where it was from. But, it was europian.

Posted: 4/8/08 at 10:23amI would bet, that just like for WOMAN IN WHITE, Jill is there on an exchange, and there'll be a British Actor working on Broadway at some point because of it.

Posted: 4/8/08 at 1:41pmThere are actually a few Americans in the cast of GONE WITH THE WINDS in London. They are working under an AEA / British Exchange: possibly a partial trade for Russell/Evans' Broadway appearance in SUNDAY at the Roundabout. The rules barring performers from crossing the pond for work are largely a thing of the past...

I was watching the vlog for the show on youtube. It seemed that there were just as many American actors in the cast as there were British.
I thought that the trade thing was an eye for an eye type of deal. In other words, one British actor for one American actor and so on and so forth. I never realized that you could do more then one actor.

I'm just curious I am a High School student in America but I have Dual Citizenship in America and England as I was born in England with two American parents. (don't want to explain it all but I have two passports) What I am wondering is that when and if I do get my equity card will I be able to seamlessly work in both America and England? How exactly will it work?
Thanks sorry if this is off-topic but it seemed on to me.

Posted: 4/9/08 at 1:59pmJill is American. I go to Baldwin-Wallace for music theatre and Jill went here as well. I am pretty sure she is from Ohio, in fact. Equity in England had to agree to give her a contract in exchange for American equity giving an English actor a contract. THey did the same thing for Woman in White. It is a huge deal, it doesn't happen often.
