Good choice, Broadbent.
Now, can they PLEASE announce Catherine O'Hara as Mrs. Lovett? PLEASE!?

I love Miss O'Hara a whole bunch...
...but not as Nelly Lovett!
That would be frightening in a very different way.

I would love Ricci above anyone,,, I doubt she can sing. Shame Walken didn't take this instead!!! He would be an awesome Judge. I hope they make this star-studded like Hairspray. It makes the films feel more like an event. Maybe audiences will actually want to see them. Kind of like all those CGI movies (Shrek, Toy Story) that have all the celebrity voice-overs. Though I'm sick of hearing them, it is part of the appeal.

Posted: 8/25/06 at 11:40amI think O'Hara would be good. I mean, A Mighty Wind (and to a lesser extent, Waiting for Guffman) showed her musical talents. Why not?

"Broadbent is hedging his bets that "Todd" is the better choice between the Tony Award-winning productions. Or look at it this way: Shankman and Travolta or Burton and Depp?"
One of my favorite parts of that article where they author compares both directors and lead actors in both musicals. I mean I think that if I was him I would choose Burton and Depp over Shankman and Travolta. I think that Broadbent is right in assuming that Sweeney will be the bigger success of the two, even though I will see both, I think that I'll probably enjoy Sweeney more. I just think that they shouldn't have the two directly compete against each other, I think that Sweeney should be released in October and leave Hairspray for December.
I've never seen Broadbent(at least to my knowledge) in anything but I think that whatever role he gets he'll be great. I could see him as Judge Turpin or perhaps even The Beadle.

well Hairspray left December for Summer 07. So there wont be any competition.
However, I have a feeling the move has more to do with the tv show success, "so you think you can dance" and less that Sweeney is planning for a winter release.

Someone on the other thread says that Broadbent's singing in "Moulin Rougue" was dubbed. Is that true? It sounds a lot like his speaking voice, and frankly, the singing doesn't sound like it came from a trained voice. Surely is this incorrect?
Anyway, although Broadbent is, IMO, more suited for the Beadle, I imagine they will have an operatic tenor play that role. I guess Broadbent is the Judge.

Posted: 8/25/06 at 2:36pmThey said it was mentioned on the DVD. But it's kind of odd that he's credited on the two soundtracks.

I agree with bjivie - this statement is somewhat mind-boggling.

See him visually, not by his singing or acting just by the way he looks. Character can also be established by look of the actor as well as overall performance.
