Joanna Gleason will star in LCT's production of John Weidman, Michael Korie and Scott Frankel's new musical, HAPPINESS. Susan Stroman will direct and choreograph the production at the Mitzi, beginning in February.
Sebastian Arcelus, Jenny Powers, Robb Sapp, Ana Maria Andricain, Fred Applegate, Holly Ann Butler, Miguel Cervantes, Patrick Cummings, Janet Dickinson, Alan Green, Samantha Maza, James Moye, Alessa Neeck, Ken Page, Robert Petkoff, Eric Santagata, Alexander Scheitinger, Lina Silver, Phyllis Somerville, Pearl Sun, Idara Victor and Matt Wall also star.
The premise doesn't really grab me, nor does the title, but I thought Korie's and Frankel's score for GREY GARDENS was quite brilliant and Joanna Gleason is wonderful of course so we'll see how it goes. Yay for Jenny Powers, not too into Sebastian Arcelus though.
Sorry to jump the fun, but I have two questions since you mentioned Gleason and February. First off, not really sure what LCT is. Lincoln Center? ...sorry if not, kind of unfamiliar with it. And also, by any chance do you know roughly WHEN in February? Because I will be there the second half of the month and would give my left eye to see The Gleason.
Happiness will play a 14-week engagement at the Newhouse beginning Feb. 27, 2009.
Thank you, ljay889. Between your helpful answers and that still-jaw-dropping avatar, you are always a delight. :)
For those who don't know what it's about, there is a brief synopsis in the link below.
Actually, it sounds kinda cool. With Gleason, Frankel & Corie, this could be really interesting to see.

do my eyes deceive more, or does that say Ken Page? THE Ken Page? That's who I'm excited about!
It *does* say Ken Page! This is going to be the best new musical of the season!!!

I was already planning on seeing this because of Frankel, but Gleason just makes it even more exciting!
Very excited! I can't wait to hear the score! I wonder what new songs Frankel and Korie will add to their repetoire...
The premise sounds absolutely awful to me:
"New Yorkers stuck in a stalled subway car and required by the special trainman to recall and re-enact the happiest moment in their lives..."
Like a bad "Twilight Zone" episode.
Ugh.

It sounds ludicrous, but so do a lot of musical plots when you actually write them down. It's all in the writing and staging.
Or maybe I'd just be happy to watch Joanna Gleason in anything.

I, for one, love this premise! It sounds cheery. Cheery is goooooood.
Anything Frankel-Korie and I'm there.
* Double Post *
Like I said, anything Frankel-Korie and I'm there.
It sounds like a Chorus Line-y plot.
I'm excited.
It's all about the writing.

And execution, but I'm excited! I really wanted to see something in that venue, and now I'm excited for this show.
Wow. Jenny Powers and Matt Cavenaugh both on Broadway at the same time. Are they married yet?
This show sounds cool.
