Posted: 7/8/04 at 1:06pmThat could be true. He may be sick from not doing **** and being bored stiff having to go to do a show everyday for an invisible character.

I remember reading in another thread that he had (ok, don't mind my spelling:)laringitis or bronchitis or something like that.
I hope he gets better. Though is part is small and his songs are really bad, he's still great.

If I remember right it is bronchitis (I even looked it up in the dictionary) The spelling mavins are out in full force today.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 5:58pmActually; according to his friend Hughe; Joel will not be returning.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 6:01pmThat wouldn't surprise me. As much as I love Joel, if the bronchitis is that bad, I'd rather have him not return.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 6:04pmYeah bronchitis is a tough one to get over. My husband had it a few years ago and it relly took him months to feel back to 100%, and he was in his 30's.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 6:06pmI would be glad to see the show without him. I didn't enjoy his performance and felt he did nothing for it. I hear Sean is much better and since I'm seeing it next week, I look forward to it :)

Posted: 7/8/04 at 6:11pmTrue SammyGal, but just to see him dance live was wonderful (to coin a phrase!)

Posted: 7/8/04 at 8:57pmLet me first say that I want Joel Grey to be in the show b/c I hate that he's so sick. However, the only reason those songs seem like nothing is Joel Grey's performance. Sean McCourt is infinitely better, and his performance gives so much more dimension to the character. He was the only highlight of the show on Sat evening (well, the music is great, and Kristin sang well, but Idina stunk, and Kristin and the ensemble lost their energy b/c of Idina).

Posted: 7/8/04 at 9:01pmWe saw Sean, as Joel was the only one of the cast out that night. We weren't sorry, as Mr. Grey has coasted for years. Hearing the MC show up on the WICKED cast recording makes me laugh (" . . .and follow me doooowwwwwn.".) And that doesn't even begin to address his 'performance' as the Wizard in a concert staging of THE WIZARD OF OZ he did (with Nathan Lane as the Lion.)
