Is he playing the lead tenor in the "Springtime for Hitler" sequence? Shouldn't they give that to Eric Gunhaus, who's been playing the role SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE RUN?
On the Internet Movie Database... (www.imdb.com), it says Barrowman's character is a "cameo role" which very well could be the tenor in "Springtime..."
Interesting!
No, they shouldn't "give" it to anyone just because they have been in ths show forever. It would have been fun if Eric got to do it, but John is great and it will be fun to see somone else do it.
Besides, all the theatre fans will get a secret little thrill when Barrowman comes down those stais singing that song...:) I hope thats his part, I really do.
I'd get a bigger thrill if it were Eric coming down those steps...
Well, I can understand the hiring of Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell because they'll be box office draws, but since they're filming in New York, and Gunhaus is right there, and he's been so loyal, it would be only right.

Yes, John Barrowman is playing the lead tenor in 'Springtime for Hitler,' and we reported that last month in 'The Leading Men' column (March 1) at Playbill.com. And we got the scoop directly from John. He's very 'honored and surprised.'
Playbill.com: 'The Leading Men' (see Barrowman item at end of column)
YAY he deserves it and will be AMAZING!
I'd rather see John Barrowman play Sabu... mmmmmmmmmmmm...
interesting, because it has also been reported that HUGH JACKMAN has been signed to play the lead tenor singing Springtime for Hitler in THE PRODUCERS film.
playbill.com seems to get their information wrong about as often as they are correct. Do not take playbill's reporting of Barrowman in THE PRODUCERS too seriously and certainly don't "take it to the bank."
I do not have a way to personally verify any casting fact at the moment. From two quick phonecalls I just made, I STRONGLY suspect we will see Hugh Jackman as the "lead tenor" in the film version of THE PRODUCERS performing Springtime for Hitler.
I wish Mr. Barrowman luck, but suspect someone may have been playing an early April Fools joke with Mr. Wong.
ew i hope not i love hugh jackman but he doesnt have the proper voice to sing it.
And "only right" has what to do with this business??
Lead Tenor = Tenor (duh)
Hugh Jackman = Baritone
I forsee a problem if Wishihadatony is right.
Barrowman would rock it.
It says on John Barrowman's website that he has it.....

Either man might have had the part first but then had to bow out due to conflicting schedules. I find it quite likely that Barrowman has the part, if only because Jackman's been in Australia for the past few weeks, and he only visited New York sporadically while filming The Fountain in Canada.
Speaking as Mr. Barrowman's webmaster, John has the part, see his website. www.JohnBarrowman.com
I forsee a problem if Wishihadatony is right.
No problem there, as Wish is never right. Ever. Not once.
A good friend of mine is involved with the film and was in the recording studio the day that John recorded "Springtime for Hitler"...John is definitely the lead tenor.

To answer WISHIHADATONY's posting that said:
'Do not take Playbill's reporting of Barrowman in THE PRODUCERS too seriously and certainly don't 'take it to the bank.' ... I suspect someone may have been playing an early April Fools joke with Mr. Wong.'
1. I heard directly from Barrowman about his casting in 'The Producers' in Feb. - far too early for any April Fool's joke.
2. The Internet Movie Database now lists Barrowman as the Lead Tenor Stormtrooper in 'The Producers: The Movie Musical.'
3. I spent a day as an extra on the movie, and heard the playback for 'Springtime for Hitler.' It's Barrowman's voice.
If Wishihadatony has proof to contradict any of this, I'd be happy to hear it. Otherwise, a joke has been played, but it hasn't been on me.

I have a hard time accepting IMDB information for any movie that's not in post-production (at least) as positive proof, but I'm still quite convinced that Barrowman has the role.
Ah, but what you don't know is that Barrowman is being dubbed by Marni Nixon.
WISH, you will find, loves to post false facts and be an overall douche. I wouldn't take anything he says "to the bank."
Thernadier;
You took the words right out of my mouth.
So... is he crazy? Or is he trying to be funny? I mean, I've been wondering.

barrowman probably has it. He'll sound nice and it doesn't require any acting, but does require self indulgant singing. It's perfect for him.
