John Lithgow singing on soup commercial.

Anyone see this? Why does this man keep singing? Doesnt he know he cant? Oh, and dont bother disagreeing with me. Ive seen DRS and Sweet Smell. Though he is better then his understudy, I will never be a a fan.

Wow. Who is this John Jithgow you speak of anyway?
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Two thoughts about the commercial
Not a lot of rehearsal time
Maybe he is deliberately off-key to heighten absurdity
but you're right about the result--I won't be ordering the Soup CD anytime soon-- Although I do appreciate JL in other vehicles.

He does absolutely nothing for me and it really bothers me that he keeps getting leads in musicals.

Keeps getting? Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is his second appearance in a Broadway musical and he's 60.

I am sure he's laughing all the way to the bank, no matter what any of us think.....

Well the two other big celebrities on Broadway right now - Brooke Sheilds & Christina Applegate - like John, are NOT great singers.

BUT all 3 of them know how to work with what they got, and give top notch performances daily.

I don't mind his singing voice and I think he's particularly great in songs like "Love Sneaks In" and "For Susan" from Sweet Smell of Success. the commercial is also very funny and I was happy to see him. I agree that he does well working with what he's got...

re: John Jithgow singing on soup commercial.

Why does a soup commercial jingle offer any comparison to his Broadway career? Why did this thread become a hate-John-Lithgow thread?

re: John Jithgow singing on soup commercial.

I don't know how.but..

I was wondering if that commercial was sorta like a commercial for 2 things even though it was selling one more than the other...by that I mean DRS and Soup...if so I clearly got the hint that they were doing that.

re: John Jithgow singing on soup commercial.

I thought John was great in DRS... he might not have an amazing voice, but he does the best he can and he pulls everything off well. I thought he did a great job, whether he has the best voice or not, his part doens't even need an amazing voice anyway, so whatever.

Just in response to the John hate. I do understand that he's not a good singer, but he can put on a great performance so that's all that matters really.

And nope, never seen the commercial.

Why isn't this thread deleted for making unnessecary and rude remarks about John Lithgow? There's no need for this. Mods, please delete this. (If you don't understand my bitchy sarcasm and slam against the mods, then just ignore this post. I'm just bitter about something from a week ago.)
