He was on as a regular contestant, with no mention of his acting, or his family.

Thanks! I've always heard Jeopardy! is a hard show to get into because of its tests so good for Jonah for getting in on his own merit!

I agree it must have sucked to lose by $3 but he has probably watched Jeopardy! for years and they always shake hands at the end of the show. Perhaps the handshake happened off-camera?

It was his own fault he lost. There's only 4 questions left in Double Jeopardy, and there's only been one Daily Double. Jonah gets the 1200 question right leaving 400,800,1600 & 2000 on the board. Anyone who's watched the show before knows the Daily Double is almost certainly in the 1600 clue, so what does he do? Picks the 800 spot, Alan rings in correctly and immediately chooses the 1600 which has the easy Chrysler Building Daily Double. Dumb move, Jonah was probably angry at himself for that blunder at the end.

A coworker of mine was on Jeopardy a few years ago. He said the general knowledge and stage fright element was hard enough, but a lot of people just couldn't get the timing right with the buzzer — you get locked out if you buzz too early, and that messes up a lot of people even in auditions.

To be clear, the only reason he lost by only $3 is because the winner only wagered enough to win. He could have lost by a higher amount

Who knows how he and the others would’ve wagered if he had gotten the daily double. But based on how things did actually play out, I do believe he wagered all but $2 so he could not have won even if he wagered everything. He certainly did better than I would’ve. I only do well in the categories regarding pop culture and Broadway. Lol. Hopefully, he displayed better gamesmanship off camera.

I’ve always thought the timing with the buzzing in is probably tricky.

Yup, Thank God for the Broadway categories. Wouldn't it be great if he was there when his brother was an answer?

Ok so I actually finally did some research and read more on the episode. I used to watch Jeopardy! regularly but not so much nowadays though I'm still familiar with some of the game strategy (i.e. where daily doubles tend to be; wagering; timing of the buzzer, etc.)

I agree with you guys that no matter what he wagered, he would have lost since Maryann got the right answer too and she was in 2nd place whereas Jonah was in 3rd place going into Final Jeopardy (the leader got hte Final Jeopardy question wrong.)

I also agree that hitting the buzzer at the right time matters a lot too and is a skill in itself since all 3 contestants probably know the right answer to at least 90% of the boxes up there. It's just a matter of who can buzz at the right time.

Jonah got one of the daily doubles where the answer was "This ballet about a feathered creature was Igotr Stravinsky's first international success."

Jonah's response was "What is Petrushka?" but the correct question is "What is Firebird?" He wagered $2500. Had he gotten that right (dangit he probably wished he and his family watched this Stravinsky ballet instead of Petrushka..) he would have been in second place going into the final jeopardy round and would have had enough money to wager over Maryann since both of them got the Final Jeopardy right.

A lot of what ifs but hey this is life. We win some and lose some. It was unfortunately not Jonah's day yesterday.

Wasn't it right after he lost $2500 in the Daily Doulbe that we heard an angry sigh from him?

mikey2573, I think so! I heard that and was appalled. At first I thought it was a sigh of relief from the guy who got the question right.

A friend of mine was a one-day champ on Jeopardy a number of years ago. He said many contestants are extremely competitive and go to great lengths to psych the others out. Bad sportsmanship is par for the course.
