You are on your game Margo. I was just about to post this. I'm sure she'll be great. I hope they have some sort of video preview with her, as I'd love to see how she works the role.

Broadway.com clarifies:
"Tony Award winner Judy Kaye will be stepping into Sweeney Todd while Patti LuPone is on vacation next month. Kaye will play Mrs. Lovett from June 20 through June 25.
"I have to go and start learning the tuba and everything," Kaye told Broadway.com. "I'm going to try not to screw anybody else up! I've played Mrs. Lovett three times [in previous productions], so I'm not afraid of her at all. I love her desperately.""

So I take it if Kaye does well in June -- which I'm sure she will -- she'd probably be the main candidate to fill in for Lupone again in August (assuming Lupone signs her contract extension)?

From the Broadway.com announcement that spoke to Kaye..
"After her June stint, Kaye is also expected to return to Sweeney Todd in August, presumably when LuPone is away at Chicago's Ravinia Festival doing Gypsy (which runs August 11 through August 13). "I do two weeks in August," Kaye said. "I don't know which weeks they are."

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

On the other thread they said that the stand-by was a mess.

Well it figures that I'll be away in Italy when Judy first fills in, but I am not missing her in August!
Happy...Everything!

She'll be wonderful. I'll be there. I love that woman. How cool it would be if they both took home the Best Actress Tonys!

I saw her in Souvenir and in Mamma Mia as Rosie. She deserves a Tony win this year. It was an absolutely astounding performance.

That article title almost killed me. I have front row tickets for the 21st of July (my birthday), and I was afraid they were announcing Patti wasnt extending. This will be my thrid time, first this close, and I would be so sad if Patti wasnt there.
Anyway, I think Kaye is a fantastic choice. She looks PERFECT and I would love to see her spin on it. I may just have to try to see her.

I'm seeing it for my 5th time as a birthday present on 6/6/06. Front row seats 109 and 110. Originally they offered me the 20th. Now I am wondering if I should have taken them...... I'll go back in August

I might have to see it a second time since Judy will be in it!! She is amazing!!!
...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...
