Posted: 2/17/10 at 6:34pmI'm going to second this. I've been a fan of Judy Kuhn's ever since I saw her in 'Metropolis' in London way back in the early 1990s. She's a fine actress and one of the greatest voices I've ever heard in the theatre!

I thoroughly enjoyed her twice in Les Mis and once in Chess.
I adored her in the Broadway Ladies special singing the ALW medley with Audra and Marin Mazzie. It gave me goosebumps!

Posted: 2/17/10 at 10:09pmWell I think someone has to offer her a role before she can come to Broadway. I talked to her a couple months ago and it seems that she would love to come back and perform.

While on the subject of Judy Kuhn...
Why didn't she perform the role of Betty Schaefer in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway? She did the LA run, but then was replaced by Alice Ripley on Broadway.
I've never heard officially, seems like once I *heard* she became pregnant or such. But not sure if that was actually the case.
Just curious.

Posted: 2/18/10 at 12:59amYes, she was pregnant and then had her child. It's not mysterious.

I'd like to see her in Judy Kuhn Sings Mildred a Beautiful Lullaby Ever Night.
One of my favorite voices. I adore her Laura Nyro album.

"Yes, she was pregnant and then had her child. It's not mysterious."
*Sigh* Another typical Broadway World response.
Quite frankly that reads as though I was losing sleep over it. Hardly. Just had never heard and asked only AFTER checking her website bio and Wikepedia page to see if it mentioned the reasoning. Neither did, nor did they mention her having children.
None the less thanks for the... answer.

Posted: 2/18/10 at 1:59pmHer priorities shifted after she became a mother, it is true. I met her one night after a performance of As Thousands Cheer, and she couldn't wait to get home to her kid.

Posted: 2/18/10 at 2:06pmi've heard and seen many Cosettes in Les Miserables... and while they were all wonderful, Judy Kuhn is the only one who has sung that role perfectly...

Agreed! She has the most beautiful female voice I can think of.
I adored her in the Broadway Ladies special singing the ALW medley with Audra and Marin Mazzie. It gave me goosebumps!
Same! What an amazing blend of fantastic voices...

OMG, the first time I saw them perform that medley I thought I was gonna die. When they all sing "I never thought I would come to this" at the same time I want to cry.
Love. Her.

You're welcome. And you're reading just a little too much in my response. I answered your question and said there was no big mystery about why she didn't do it in NY. In a way, I got the best of both coasts and got to do CDs with both Bettys.
