Julia Murney in Evita

Can anyone see this happening? As good as Idina is, Julia has more of a strength in the high notes.

re: Julia Murney in Evita

If this could happen, I would die a happy girl. AND THEN RAUL COULD PLAY CHE. YES. AGAIN.

(But they'd have to do it on Broadway.)

That sounds like inspired casting to me. For both leads. When I first saw Evita, I instantly thought of Raul as Che (and was pleased to find out he did indeed play the role).

re: Julia Murney in Evita

That would be WONDERFUL. Raul is a fantastic Che and would love to see him in that part again. And Julia is just so talented. I could see it working.

re: Julia Murney in Evita

Julia would knock Idina off the planet and I'd squeal out loud if we got a cast recording with her as Eva and Raul as Che.

i would make the trip to see it in an instant if julia was to play eva

re: Julia Murney in Evita

Yes Yes Yes!!

She is the only one who could possibly do the role justice. Because you need to have that voice and be that much of an actress. She is the only one that would be right for it.

re: Julia Murney in Evita

I must be the only one that thinks she wouldn't be able to handle the high notes. From what I've heard, her highest belt note is a C and above that she gets a little shakey. Granted, I've only heard her on The Wild Party and HAIR CD's, but that's how she came across. Evita sits mainly on D's and E's and is a bitch to sing. I can't see Idina in the role either, because you need to have a great control over both your belt, and your mix in the upper register. Eden Espinosa would be a better vocal fit, but she's not right for the part either. I still say Alice Ripley would be best.

re: Julia Murney in Evita

Julia Murney is known for her crazy high belting. That's why everyone was suggesting her. She belts much higher than a C.

re: Julia Murney in Evita

I wouldn't call anything Julia Murney does belting. Ever.

Of all choices, if you're not going ot go with a younger actress, I'll have to second Alice Ripley as the one woman out there who would absolutely floor me with Eva's songs.

re: Julia Murney in Evita

If Julia does all this "high belting," then why haven't I heard it on two ridiculous belt CD's: The Wild Party and HAIR?

Because it's so far back in her throat you can't hear it, Bjivie.

re: Julia Murney in Evita

I kind of agree, I don't think she's the right vocal type for the role.

I think the best idea yet is Stephanie Block as Eva. She's got a big, high belt, and that is what the role calls for. Eden's not quite a good enough actor for it, but Stephanie has got some great acting chops.

I'd also love to see a black Eva. jennifer holliday, anyone? Of course, I think ms. holliday is appropriate for every role.

Yes, Jake. Julia can belt the hell outta some high notes. I think even though her Wild Party "belting" isn't as insane as Wicked's, its still pretty impressive. Her voice is just so rich and beautiful. She has like the perfect pitch.

re: Julia Murney in Evita

I think you all are crazy. Show me these high belting notes of hers and I'll shutup, but I just haven't heard them. I think she could pull of something like Elphaba that has some of those E's and F's, but they're olding sustained for a moment and then it goes back down into chest voice-area. Eva is up there ALL THE TIME. I love Jennifer Holliday.
