re: Julie Andrews voice

Ohhh...I was so sad when I heard her "sing" in Eloise! This was devestating...what a loss for the musical theatre community! The Sound of Music was my first favorite musical...re: Julie Andrews voice

re: Julie Andrews voice

What about the OBC recording of CAMELOT?
Julie sings like a bird in THE LUSTY MONTH OF MAY and WHAT DO THE SIMPLE FOLK DO? She breaks my heart in BEFORE I GAZE AT YOU AGAIN and I LOVED YOU ONCE IN SILENCE.
Wit, passion, wonder --- she's got it all.
She's a Goddess!

I heard that track on the PRINCESS DIARIES CD today. I felt sick to my stomach. Please don't let the last song Julie releases on CD be a song with Raven.
"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."

re: Julie Andrews voice

Raven doesn't deserve to sing with Julie. Today, my libray ended up with 300+ CDs out of some class action lawsuit...anyways, I noticed one of the CDs was a Julie Andrews Christmas CD...hopefully I can take it out when they put it through the system at the library.

No one ever has the same opinion here? Yet, is Julie Andrews one of the great legends everyone here actually likes?

re: Julie Andrews voice

I think it's pretty much agreed Mrs. Andrews had one of the most beautiful voices ever. Someone mentioned her singing in CAMELOT, and if you ever have any questions just listen to her in that recording. It is the definition of perfection.

re: Julie Andrews voice

I just saw the movie and Julie was GORGEOUS and WONDERFUL as usual. Though, I had to stop myself from throwing sharp objects at the screen when she sang with Raven. I understand that she is popular with the target audience but her character was so obviously put there just for the sake of having Raven in the movie. It was a sorry excuse for a long-awaited song from Julie. Oh well, cute movie... And at least we got a little bit of her singing.

re: Julie Andrews voice

haha she was a drunken old nanny in Eloise, like a 90s-burnt-out-version of Maria Rainer!
And insomniak- ewwww- that's Christopher Plummer you're lusting after!
#33

re: Julie Andrews voice

ohhh Judy what's wrong with lusting after Christopher Plummmer??? Even now I'd still **** him! But most definitely in his Sound of Music days...yuuummm!

Ohhh but has anyone else seen PD2 yet? Ohh I ::heart:: Julie!! I'll go post OT about it!

re: Julie Andrews voice

I saw "Princess Diaries 2" tonight... and I wanted to cry. Julie sounds horrible.......... damn doctors, I'm glad she sued... she got a real lot didnt she?

re: Julie Andrews voice

Besides a beautiful voice, she had perfect diction or whatever the technical name is. Just listen to ANY of her recordings and you can hear every single vowel and consonant in the lyrics perfectly. Even in Victor/Victoria, you might not love the score, but you could understand every single word she sang.

millie_dillmount - get your hands on those christmas CDs of Julie's - they are really wonderful - great arrangements and her voice on those recordings is at it's prime. They are my favorite CDs to play during the holidays, along with my Nancy Lamott Christmas CD.

re: Julie Andrews voice

It is not Christmas without at least one Julie Andrews CD. I love the old ones the best.

What's that Redhot? Not Babs' Christmas Album? Growing up that was the only Christmas music I was allowed to listen to, because she's Jewish so it was okay.

re: Julie Andrews voice

Matt - well, as much as I love the older Babs stuff - (her first three albums are simply her best work available - buy them if you can.) I just didn't particularly love her christmas arrangements - now Nancy Lamott singing "I'll be Home for Christmas" will wreck you - its the most beautiful arrangement of it that I have ever heard. And Julie's old Firestone Christmas album is the best - her "Bells of Christmas are Ringing" is simply glorious.

Anyone see her on Regis and Kelly this morning? She was so sweet and classy.

re: Julie Andrews voice

That's funny, Matt, I was going to ask Redhot the same question!! I love Bab's Christmas album myself.

re: Julie Andrews voice

she truly is a goddess and it's awful what happened to her voice. I came close to tears when I heard her sing in Eloise. I guess all we can do is cherish the old movies and recordings.

re: Julie Andrews voice

Julie is an amazing person, she is a classic. To me she is what theater is about. It is truly sad what happened to her I am so upset about her situation. I am truly happy that I can still see her act and the amazing books she is writing for children. She gives so much and the work she has done will always be cherished.

re: Julie Andrews voice

She was on MSNBC very early this morning around 2-3 am - probably pre-taped??? Anyone see it? They showed clips of her singing with someone else when she was younger, including the "Trolley Song."

re: Julie Andrews voice

I love Julie Andrews. I don't think Raven is a horrible singer, and I haven't seen the movie, but I hate how Disney uses their "circle of stars" in nearly everything they do. And they always make them sing. And I will not mention the name in this Julie Andrews post... but she is a bubbly blonde popstar who is a product of Disney. I will resent them for that till I die.
What is Broadway? A street? Some say it's a street. Some say it is the best street in the world. Others think its terrible. That's the beauty of it, it's terribly beautiful. Some hate it and don't know why. Others love it and don't know why. That's what makes it so wonderful, it's a mystery.

re: Julie Andrews voice

Millie-I saw that show on MSNBC last night also. I was just about to post about it. Julie Andrews said that she can only "talk sing." She compaired it to Rex Harrison's singing in My Fair Lady.

A little off topic but wouldnt it be amazing if Julie Andrews took a small part in the stage version of Mary Poppins. I doubt she would but I can dream cant I

re: Julie Andrews voice

It's truly sad that Julie lost her voice through an inept surgery, but please remember, she's at an age when most sopranos have lost their voices anyhow. She's well past the age when Kiri Te Kanawa retired--the same is true with Eileen Farrell.

I did love her voice, though. Be thankful for recordings.

Thanks for the words of reason, Dolly. I was thinking it but it didn't seem like anyone would really listen...

re: Julie Andrews voice

If she could sing, do you think she would make a suitable Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street? Just thinking...

re: Julie Andrews voice

That's interesting you should ask that - I was just thinking that Andrews is around Shirley Jones's age, and according to most who posted here, Shirley doesn't have much of a voice left either, and she's never stopped singing, so she's in as good a shape as she could be for her age.
