July 18th- A Milestone for "Wicked"

On July 18th, as you all know, Tony-winner Kristin Chenoweth will leave her acclaimed performance as G(a)linda in the hit musical Wicked.
Also on that day, Wicked will play its 300th performance!
Must be a bittersweet day at the Gershwin on the 18th.

Congrats to the show and we will miss you Cheno!!!

can anyone with the name Norbert Leo Butz ever be totally overshadowed? That is one brillant name! And it's probably on his birth certificate (his parents must've had a sense of humor.) And it doesn't hurt that he's a cutie

Isnt taht the last night Sean McCourt will be in as the Wizard too? I think whoever is taking over starts the 20th also.(could be wrong)

Wait a minute. Someone at the Wicked Theatre said that a replacemt for Joel Grey was going in indefinitely starting July 20. Is Joel out of the show forver? He needs to rest from doing nothing.

Anyone know what the billing/ads will be on the 20th? Will Jennifer be above the title with Idina? Will the poster still have the Cheno billing (Cheno first, Idina slightly higher?). Or will it switch to "Tony award winner" Idina Menzel in Wicked. Just curious. Also will George Hearn replace Joel in the ads?

A bittersweet day it will be indeed. OMGosh, can you imagine how this performance's "For Good" is going to be? something tells me that Cheno and Idina will barely get through it. Good luck Wicked, and a heartfelt farewell to those who brought it to it's 300th.

I'm in Row H, right orchestra, almost at the very end of row, right beside the obstructed view seats, but not "obstructed" yet. I don't know how the view will be. I'm a little worried.

I'll be there too! Orchestra row E... it'll be sad. Poor Joel, he has brochitis, i think. And he's not exactly young either. Hope he recovers soon.

Yep.. Joel is gone "for good". Im afraid this may be the end of his broadway run! I hope not because hes a legend, but it may be true.

You guys are talking about George Hearn, who is replacing Joel. George Hearn is a very great actor and singer. He's really more a deep baritone, but He'll be great as the wizard. Try to look for ward to seing him in the show instead of refering to him as "the guy replacing Joel." The man played Sweeney Todd on Broadway! He's very good, and want to go see him very badly.

Will Sean McCourt go back to being the understudy? I really wish I could get up to NYC for Kristin's last show (and it's not b/c people are obsessed with her that she gets more attention than Norbert, it's that she has a much bigger/more important role!). I'm sure they will change the posters, and they will give Jennifer Laura Thompson the same billing as Kristin. In every other show that I've seen, they change the posters when the stars change. I really hope she's good on 8/15. I'm kind of scared, I've seen it three times with Kristin, and even at her worst, she's still amazing!

I saw Sean and Joel (Joel twice, Sean once) and I actually thought Sean was better. He has a younger more sophisticated look, and he moves much better than Joel. But Joel still deserved at least a Tony NOD.
