Oh...I know it is too late to post this, but I was kind of...empty for about 2 days after the show. Kind of mourning...I lost the purpose of my life...(OK...not that bad)
It was great, as always, and even better! I have not been a huge fan of Richard Kind in the singing department, but he sounded so great and the combination with Roger was best ever.
Actually, on May 3rd (the first day of Roger's return
) it was not Richard who played Max. So, I had to go back to the show to see them together. At first, I was not that impressed by the combination, to be very honest.
It must be a challenge to play the role with various actors. But, as Roger said in the interview, Richard and Roger found the rhythm of each other quite well and put it on the stage beautifully.
It was, of course, very moving for a fan to see Richard and Roger walking back into the light and two silhouette was tapping each other's shoulder.
And, of course, whole cast was great. I loved Roger & Gary's "Roger and Carmen" (who can beat that?!), but current combination (Brooks & Jonathan) is great, too. I cannot get enough of them.
The last speech of Richard was...really funny. Not too cheezy, just light and fun! I wish Roger gave us a speech, too, but he asked the orchestra to move on.
I thought I was lucky to see the last show of La Cage. No question. And, even though The Producers will be still going on, I also felt lucky on that day to see the last show (for this round...I hope they will be back) of Richard and Roger.
So...now, I have to get to my normal life and keep going back to Broadway to support.
Oh, I had a great incident at the theatre but I will tell you about it in the different thread!
bustinlose: whered you get youre avatar from?!
How funny - I was there too specifically to see Richard's last performance.
I do think that by the end of his run, Max got the best of him. It's a role that takes so much out of you physically and is hell on your throat, and to my ears Richard sounded tired. It made me re-appreciate the remarkable vocal stamina of Brad Oscar (back again as Max as of tonight) who must have leather lungs to have done the role SO often with appearant strain.
I know Richard wants to come back to Broadway soon and hope he can find something where he is for once not a 'replacement'.
I know this is heresy to say ...but I actually prefer Roger Barts Leo to Matthews. Roger kept doing wonderfully geeky physical comedy bits (flaring out his jacket, walking alternately stiffly or like overcooked spaghetti, enlongating his vowels and squnching up his face) that made Leo more appealing and funny.
I don't think John Tracey Egan was in the cast Sunday afternoon. He makes a terrific Roger DeBris & Franz. His presence was missed.
WickedRocks: the picture of Nathan, Matthew & Will is from the March 28 issue if TIME (yeah, they filmed that scene REALLY early!)

Thanks so much for the review mandy! I so wish I could have been there, but I'm so thankful that I got to see Roger's Leo twice during the run. In my mind, he's the best Carmen and Leo. If only he could clone himself and play both parts at once!
Hopefully Roger will be back gracing a Broadway stage sometime soon.

John Treacy egan was in on Sunday...all the leads were...only jim borstelmann (donald dinsmore etc) was out...
I thought Richard was quite wonderful (I saw it a week before they left). I do prefer Brad a little more, he has such a powerhouse voice, but Richard was (as Mel Brooks would say) surprisingly good.
It was interesting to see where Roger had taken Leo since his last run in the show (saw him twice as Leo his last run). He honestly got funnier and funnier everytime - and I've prefered him to Matthew (though he's adorable and lovely) ever since my first time at the show. Roger himself does not agree on that point, but oh well.
Here's to The Producers, and here's to the performers that make it as funny and memorable as it is. *downs champagne*
