I think if we have a lot of people call the Nederlander and tell them how much the show means to all of us we might have a chance.
coolkid... The box office personnel have nothing to do with the show's closing. Why torture them?

Coolkid really has no clue how the system works, does he?

Then we could all write letters to the producers. They are the one's who make the decision right? and tell them that the show means a lot to all of us and that it deserves to stay open at least through the summer.
And you'd get those addresses where?
If you're still looking for a ticket to the 7pm on June 1, here are some on EBay.

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in a long time. Sentimentality is not going to put butts in seats. The show is closing because it's no longer turning a profit. Unless every Rent-head in the country plans to save up and see the show every day till June 1st, I don't think you have much chance of saving it. Best just to accept that it's closing and move on with your life!
Don't forget that the web-heavy advertising campaign counting down the minutes until the closing night counts down, not up. Don't you think the counter means it's really and truly going to "expire" just as they announce?
James885 is right on: it would take a lot to keep this show open much longer than June 1st. They aren't making the numbers, and they don't just bounce back during the boom weeks when everyone else sees double digit percentage attendance jumps and $100,000+ jumps in the grosses. Could they run it at a loss any longer: sure...it's made everyone involved with it a lot of money over the years, but doing it for the RentHedz just isn't enough.
At least you have until June 1st...it didn't just pack up shop a week after the closing notice was posted -- although other shows have extended past their "final weeks" notices, it isn't always the case, and I personally don't think RENT will extend further beyond 6/1.
I hope they offer first come first serve tickets, since Im already in line.
I really don't think it will extend. It hasn't sold well for the last year (minus the Anthony + Adam return fiasco), and if Beauty and the Beast was doing DECENT business and it closed, Rent should probably close too. The shorter away the closure date is, the better the sales will be. If you waited until the end of summer, who would honestly just got to NYC to see Rent one random tuesday night in April? And I don't think too many church/school groups plan to see Rent becuase it is somewhat controversial..most go see PHANTOM & The Little Mermaid! (haha)
And something that BFosse said: "I also think LES MISERABLES and MISS SAIGON did so as well. "
Les Miserables Original run extended only two months, not an entire year (Supposed to close the weekend that the strike happened in 2003 I believe and extended to May 1. And I think Miss Saigon was intended to close end October '00 and it extended until the end of January '01.
