Wowzers. When i first sat down in the 3 row i thought .....WAY TOO CLOSE. But when the show started It felt like i was actually in the show. Anyways i thought it was GRRRREAT. I didnt realize it was so funny and vulgar at times. Carolee Carmello Was fABBAlous as Donna. Much better then the original donna in NY and London. And my favorite number was Voulez Vous, its not the best ABBA song but i thought it was my favorite song in the show. My seat was very close to the speaker so the En'Tracte blew my head off literally. I bet even a deaf person could hear it. And most of the songs that had bass vibrated my tush. Storyline still the same corny and cheesy but this is the only musical that know off that i enjoyed every song. The only downside i had was I got yelled at by an usher by taking a picture of my sister in front of the curtain. But i got it none the less. There was a old man behind me....probly in his late 70's singing all the songs. That was funny. Right as the same time donna humming fernando someones cell phone went off with the MIDI version of fernando which was cool but strange. And Sky when he was briefly in his speedo had 30% of his crack hanging out. But anyways I had a GREAT Time. I would see it over and over again. I would not see Spamalot over and over again cause the songs and jokes would get old but those ABBA tunes would last a lifetime(including life after death) That review about putting prozac out of business was invalid cause i cried of HAPPINESS AND JOY during some of the songs. Mamma Mia is gonna last a Looooong time and the movie will make it last even longer.

Posted: 12/23/07 at 7:53amI agree with you completely. Mamma Mia is one of my favorites shows and I will be seeing it again in 3 weeks. For such a fun show they have the most miserable ushers I've ever seen. He's always yelling at people.

Posted: 12/23/07 at 10:17amI wonder if it's time to check this out again. No one in my mind beats Louise Pitre and both Dee Hoty and the touring version put a serious dent in my affection for the show, but maybe I should see if Carolee lives up to the hype.

I fully agree with the Dee Hoty assessment.
I LOVE her immensley and strictly went back to see the show on Broadway when she was in it. HUGE disappointment and her performance killed my taste for MAMMA MIA! after that - I've avoided the show since then.
Guess I need to go back and rediscover it all over again with a 'good' Donna.

Posted: 12/23/07 at 6:23pmI think Louise is the best Donna.
#7re: Just Came From Mamma Mia....
Posted: 12/23/07 at 10:28pmI've seen 6 Donna's, and Louise remains the best, but that was hard to keep thinking after Carolee's amazing WTIA. But, Louise still takes it all.

What makes Louise better than Carolee?
(Just curious! I've only ever seen Carolee and some random woman on the tour a few years ago--- who was obviously forgetable)

I ALMOST saw Mamma Mia, but then decided on Drowsy at the last second, since I figured Mamma Mia will still be playing for at least another year...or forever, maybe.
I still wish I'd had time to see it, though.
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

The Piaf reference with Louise is very accurate...there's no Original Bradway Cast CD, but she did record Winner Takes It All and Slipping Through My Fingers for one of her own recordings and her version of WITA is very Piaf-like in terms of phrasing and performance. I love it to death.
I saw Louise in both Toronto and on Broadway and although I like the show itself a lot, I was completely unprepared for how amazing she was.

I've seen 8 Donna's.... And Louise Pitre is definitely the best. She so embodied the character and gave it depth, believe it or not. She was in turns angry, playful, motherly, sexy, upset - a wonderfully layered performance. Not to mention those killer vocals - her voice is simply incredible. Her version of WINNER is breathtaking (also the one in french - wow!) and one of my all-time favorites.
Her hair is gorgeous, too.
I have to say though that Carolee Carmello is my second favorite, and that you're definitely getting your money's worth with her as Donna.

Exactly...her acting was first-rate. For a lightweight show like this, you don't expect to be moved, but she accomplaished that several times during the second act.
Ok, so now my second show next month is between this and Speech & Debate...Xanadu's a given for the 10th.
