Wow, looking at last week's and the previous week's figures, LITTLE SHOP has made about $325,000 at jst over 60% capacity.
With Hunter Foster's leaving the show, and it's being snubbed the Best Revival Tony nomination, I believe we'll see a closing notice soon, sorry to say.

Posted: 6/1/04 at 8:54pmIsn't it obvious? Hunter is leaving on TONY DAY for cryin' out loud. Not only is it obvious that they're closing, but it's obvious that everyone knows it. That probably hit everyone in the face when they didn't get a best revival nod... which actually surprised me... not because it's so great (fun, but not so great) but because of its huge following.

This is true, however Wonderful Town was only at 53%. People seem to think Wonderful Town is well, wonderful. I did not. So sad. Anyway, broadway is interesting. I liked Little Shop, and that would be sad. And true, joey Fatone does not seem to fit in that part. Oh well

BUT IT CAN'T CLOSE.
JOEY FATONE IS ITS SAVIOR!
I saw it. It was cute. I do- however- have the Playbill and Poster signed by all of the original cast. I may sell it one day on eBay...hmmm...but for now I'll stick to selling what's in demand...me.

Hmm...SOLD to ANYONE who will buy me dinner and take me to a show.
GOD- IF ONLY I was as cheap as I advertise.
But back to the subject...LITTLE SHOP...LITTLE SHOP OF WHORES

Posted: 6/2/04 at 12:23amLittle shop will not close until they see if Joey will sell. It's not nominated for revival and they know hunter won't win, so it has nothing to do with the Tonys at this point.

Posted: 6/2/04 at 1:17amIf Cyndi Lauper signs on (as Musto mentioned in his coumn) or the producers get their heads out of their asses and grab Ellen Greene (as she's apparently shown interest), the show won't be closing anytime soon.

Damn it. I had no idea both shows [WONDERFUL TOWN and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS] were doing so poorly. I just bought both cast recordings... I usually buy the cast recording and, if I like it, plan to see the show within the next month or so. Oh well. Maybe I'll be lucky.

It's sad that these shows are not doing well. Saw LSOH in March
and the house was almost sold out. (It was a Saturday Matinee)The show was fun and full of energy, and the plant was marvelous! This is a great first show yo bring the kids to. I hope with summer now here thr house numbers will improve.
As far as Wonderful Town goes, I can not for the life of me figure out why this show is not selling out to the tour busses. I thought this show would be doing gangbusters with the "older" crowd- and by "older" I mean folks in their 60's and 70's. This was another show that was just filled with energy. I will say it was a bit dated, but that was part of its charm.

My mom's in her 60's and wouldn't be caught dead listening to crap like 'Wonderful Town.'
She grew up with Motown and the early days of rock and roll not dated old musicals.
Producers might want to notice that today's 60 and 70 year-olds didn't necessarily grow up listening to Rodgers and Hammerstein and that style of music.

Posted: 6/3/04 at 8:46amSince I doubt they're going to get the Audrey casting right,(they seem to be putting all their eggs in the Fatone basket), it should close. Fatone is not my idea of a show saviour. I'm sure the next Audrey will be yet another milquetoast, wishy washy drone who once again, won't come close to Ellen Greene. LS was on cable the other night and it was painful to see how far they had strayed from the brilliance of Greene.

Well, JohnPopa--the 60 and 70 year olds attending WT, apparently DO like that kind of "crap". To think that Rodgers and Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, and Meredith Willson would ever be called crap by someone! It just makes one happy for the future of musical theatre.
JP--you may not like those kinds of musicals, but I HOPE you know how foolish you sound referring to them as "crap". Sincerely.

I'm with you -- let's think about the FUTURE of musicals, instead of obsessing over their past any longer.
Yes, those old shows are an important part of musical theater history but, no, I just don't care anymore.
We need to stop looking backward.

I saw the show again for a 3rd time. I was apalled at how badly the show is doing. Bottom Line: THIS IS A HIGHLY ENJOYABLE REVIVAL. I have never once seen it when the audience didn't enjoy it compleatly. Usually when the crowd reaction is this strong, the word of mouth, sells out a show. It can't be because of the reviews were mixed because frankly people (out of towners, who do most of the ticket buying) don't pay attention to reviews-if they did "Aida" and "Mama Mia" would have closed YEARS ago.
I really don't know. Personally, I had a GREAT time.
Just my opinion, I may be wrong.
