They invited 100 fans into a BIG studio, where the cast recorded the show on a low stage. The point was capturing the emotion of the audience during the performance.
Um....ok. I still think that is weird but you do what must be done.

Tiny, put "Superlover" or "Brooklyn grew up" on your site. Those songs are really strong on the cd, also you can hear Karen sing on "Brooklyn Grew Up"
I really enjoy your website. :)
Thanks so much!

wait "Pain in my heart" isn't in the Broadway show/CD. I LOVE that song.

No it is. They renamed it 'Brooklyn Grew Up.'
I just got the cd and am enjoying it highly.
What is the music like? Anti-Brookites have been saying it's like all the reject songs from American Idol.
That 'American Idol' comment is so tired and unoriginal, it is annoying me. It doesn't even make a lot of sense.
I only brought it up because I hate everything about American Idol and if the music is like that, I'm steering clear.

i hate when you go to a store after ordering brooklyn a week in ahead of time and when you go to the store it is not there after waiting for evere for this show to come out.
Well, I must say, after seeing "Brooklyn" and being extremely disappointed, the CD is almost convincing me to give the show another chance. Almost. Kevin Anderson and Ramona Keller shine on this recording. Eden is wonderful, Cleavant didn't sound as good as he did live, and Karen is good. I think, and this made me shudder initially, Brooklyn could win the Tony for Best Score. I pray it goes to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels becasue Yazbek is waaay overdue, but Brooklyn's score is pretty good, and the cast is amazing. Well, thats my opinion. I might just find myself at the Plymouth next week again!
Interesting, I felt just the opposite when I heard the cd. I saw the show and enjoyed it though I can understand some of the complaints about it. But when I started listening to it last night everything that I didn't like about it stood out and I had to turn it off. I was glad that I saw it before hearing this cd because I probably would not have gone. I did like it more when I played it again today. There's a lot to like about it.
I noticed a post that mentioned buying the cd, copying it and then reselling it. There's another thread on here about supporting cast recordings so the companies keep making them. Not to get preachy, but every cd that is copied and resold means one less the company sells, or more depending on how many are copied. Buying from Ebay does the same thing - except for ones that are out of print. I'm not involved in the industry at all but I assume that the actors also benefit from more cds being sold. Smaller labels that release cast recordings certainly can't absorb too much loss and I believe at least one closed up shop this year. Ok, I'll stop

It's only his second Broadway score. How can that be "waaay overdue"? Yes, I thought Full Monty score was better than Producers, but that doesn't mean he should get an automatic Tony.

As someone who really enjoyed the show, I've just got to say...
this is by far one of the most disappointing cast recordings I've ever bought.
The quality is AWFUL and feels more like a demo from some early tryouts of the show than anything else. And honestly, the energy of the show is just nonexisistent of the recording unlike how much there was during the actual production.
Or maybe I'm crazy. I don't know.
There's energy during "Superlover" :)
I am really enjoying the CD but I understand how people don't like it.
I really loved the CD.. :)

I really felt like the only energy it gave off was during Ramona's performances. Don't take this as bashing only because I enjoyed the show. I just really think this is a terrible recording.
No, i didn't take it as a bashing at all, i just think that the CD is great.. what didn't you like about it?
I've seen the show twice and really enjoyed it- although I think there are HUGE gaping flaws.
I'm on the fence about the cd. It seems a bit manipulative to record it in front of an audience. Almost to say "Listen to their applause! This show is amazing! Now come see it!" I also think it's cheesy to self-promote using 100 fans (which sound more like 500 on the cd).
Having said that, God bless Cleavant Derricks. He is the definition of "Heart."
Well, they thought that thats the best way to present this CD - because many parts in the show take place in places like Carnegie hall and Madison Square Garden, and the characters are actually singing there, so having a live audience helps the story and plot.
I cant take it out of my cd player :)
