Just got home from "CURTAINS"
#1Just got home from "CURTAINS"
Posted: 3/24/07 at 7:52pmIT was a SMASH! From the choreography to the singing it was AMAZING. My only regret is I should have gotten an autograph but my bus had to leave. And somewhere i heard the songs weren't catchy. But they were, I was humming as I left the theater. Otherwise the trip consisted of going to Juniors for lunch which was alright, not the best but if anyone has any questions or comments I would appreciate them. Thx!

I'm so gld you enjoyed it Bundy!
I thought it was fantastic as well. Did you think the First Act took some time to get going? Not that it wasn't funny, but it just didn't have the pace of the Second Act. What'd you think? Oh and of course--how'd your mom like it?

Posted: 3/24/07 at 9:26pmto be perfectly honest I found some of the jokes bland and the whole story was somewhat perplexing to me.There were alot of characters to piece together too. But everything else overwhelms the holes in the play. Such as the clever cheography and the outstanding cast. Geeze I am so happy that I saw curtains. Now I can die smiling

Hey Bundy the more times you see it the less perplexing it gets. You may have to see it a couple more times.

Juniors has a small location in Grand Central & now occupies the site of Balzano which was a wonderful Italian restaurant that left us to quickly.
We ate there twice & the second time we would rather forget (not the food though)

bundy...it happens like that for me too....I see a bunch of shows but I sort of latch on to some shows more than others. Last season it was The Drowsy Chaperone. I saw it seven times....but it's been a few months since the last time I saw it. Curtains is my new thing!

Well I'm glad you enjoyed the show! I admit that some of the plot was tough to follow...After the show I turned to my dad and I was like, "Ok so...I think I get it...pretty much." But luckily he was able to fill in the little parts I didn't fully get.
What song was your favorite, just out of curiosity?

Posted: 3/25/07 at 10:25amWhen I reviewed the show, i said overall I didn't find the score as catchy as I thought it would be, but there were a few songs that really stood out, and I can't get the tune out of my head; however, I've been watching the videos and am finding that some of the songs are growing on me. Maybe if you listen to it a few times (after the CD comes out), you will appreciate it better.

Posted: 3/25/07 at 10:45amI love how the initial post says it is a SMASH and AMAZING and in the follow up post admits that the jokes are flat and the story hard to follow.

Millie;
The show should be appreciated at its own terms. I shouldn't have to listen to a cd to like it better. And Sueleen.. you took the words right out of my mouth regarding the original posters statement.

I'm not alone in that respect surely?!?
I've seen Curtains more than once and I can't get some of the songs out of my head - particularly It's A Business, Show People, What Kind of Man, Tough Act to Follow, Thataway and In The Same Boat - plus I love the overtures.

Posted: 3/26/07 at 5:33pmGlad you got to see it, and glad to hear the good review. I am excited, I am seeing it on Wednesday, along with Legally Blonde. :) How was David Hyde Pierce (like I need to ask, but humor me)

I've seen this show twice and the songs are always cycling through my head. Thankfully it's multiple songs instead of just one song over and over. Today's songs have been "The Woman's Dead" and "In the Same Boat."
PS...They'd better institute an SRO policy soon cause I can NOT afford another $60 ticket!

AudreyTwoTwo: DHP was adorable! I know I'm a bit biased (I've loved him in Frasier for years), but IMHO he was even better in Curtains than he was in Spamalot. I can't imagine anyone else coming close to matching his performance as Lt Cioffi - it fit him like a glove. His singing has come on leaps and bounds - he has progressed from Noel Coward-like speak-singing to being able to carry a tune wonderfully. And his soft-shoe shuffle was a real highlight for me. Coupled with his inimitable talent for physical comedy, the man should sue if he's robbed of a Tony nomination this year!
I hope you enjoy the show as much as I did. I travelled from the UK especially for Opening Night and it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life.

Posted: 3/26/07 at 8:53pmTo anyone who has seen Drowsy AND Curtains. Can they really be compared to each other? I've heard a lot of people say they are similar.
#23re: Just got home from 'CURTAINS'
Posted: 3/26/07 at 9:37pmWell...they've both been called love letters to theatre....and that's really the only similarity.
