The first act was fun. The second act was arduous-it needs at least 20 minutes of cuts/rewrites. Shakespeare vs. Bernard Shaw in a boxing ring with Ibsen thrown in? Heady stuff for a musical. And Chris Kattan can't act or sing (and barely tries to do either)--zero stage presence. Where's Matthew Broderick when you need him. However, Nathan Lane holds 2/3 of it together by his on-stage talents.
Bonus... Nathan sings a Sondheim song to his dead wife which sounds suspiciously like Sweeny Todd's 'Johanna.'
This concludes tonites Theater Review from midtowngym.
