Kennedy, a remake of the 1983 musical One Shining Moment, is aiming for a Broadway bow in November 2013. The production commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Presidency of John F. Kennedy.
Proscenium Productions will present the musical in a Chicago workshop this summer, with a full production scheduled to launch by year's end.
The original authors and composers of One Shining Moment, Allan Jay Friedman (Winnie the Pooh) and Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde), are revising the script and score.
"We are delighted to have been asked to remake One Shining Moment," said composer-playwright Friedman in a statement. "Our goal for this revised and up-to-date version, which we call Kennedy, is to have people walking away with the feeling of hope, re-empowerment and the realization that you may be able to destroy the dreamer, but not the dream. We want to restore truth, idealism and our freedoms in a world much in need of these lost values and priorities and make the world a safe and noble place for children."
Bricusse added, "JFK was an iconic hero, not only in the United States, but throughout the world. The inspiration and lessons we learn from his life along with the impact of his death carry as much or perhaps even more importance and power today as they did a half-century ago."
One Shining Moment opened in May 1983 at Chicago's Drury Lane Theatre.

The question begs, "Why?"
Its hard to believe Leslie Bricusse has this much going on at 81.. Jekyll and this on Broadway next year!

Who is playing Lee Harvey Oswald?....what a horrible idea. Bet they try to get Katie Holmes for Jackie.
I don't know, it has potential to be something good. I'd rather go see an original bio-musical than a movie redone for the stage any day! Why should I shell out $100 to see a movie I can watch on Netflix? I digress - I'm excited to see what they do with it.
Ten bucks says they try to get Aaron Tveit for Jack Kennedy (...come to think of it he does have the hair)

I'll just ask the obvious question: What musical either playing or not playing ANYWHERE isn't aiming for Broadway in 2013? Because I've counted about seventy of them.
Oh, dear. And with Leslie Bricusse, of all people! (This is not to say I don't love some of his work, but I don't think gravitas is his specialty.)
If Billy Wilder was correct that Norma Desmond required an opera, how can JFK be done justice by anything else?

The show was produced 29 years ago and may NOW come to Broadway? 29 years? Is that some kind of record?
