Is it me or does Kinky Boots sound a lot better than most Broadway shows? I saw the show the other night and, even in previews, it sounds a lot better than 90% of the shows out there. So many shows sound like ass with the band almost inaudible and tinny sounding vocals. I could hear every word of the clever lyrics and the band was really big and powerful.

I found this to be the opposite. I thought the overall sound and sound of the band was weak at Kinky Boots.

Oh... He's the sound designer. Duh. No... I just like good sound.
I thought the sound design was excellent. I was in the mid mezz this weekend and everything was crystal clear. Does Billy Porter always sound raspy or is he sick?

i thought the sound design was extraordinary. Not only the band, but the way the vocals projected was just wonderful. I could see this taking the tony for sound.
Fame, that is Billy porters normal voice. It always is a tad raspy but you cannot complain with the performance he is giving!
When i was younger, and saw him in Previews for Grease! (i know, i know) I thought he sounded so crystal clear with such control. I understand age does change the vocal cords, but i don't remember him sounding raspy at all at that time.

Billy sounded great the night that I saw the show... I would say "character" rather than "raspy".
