taffy, I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that it will definitely incriminate me.

Becca Ayers is awsome!
I missed Karen when I saw Brooklyn! Julie Reiber was on as Faith but she was awesome so I suppose I have nothing to complain about. I have seen those clips though and Karen seems great.

Erin, You so Rent multiple times with Karen? That's cool.
I heard that Julie Reiber was good as Faith but I would have been upset not to see Karen.
Did anyone go the the website dedicated to her. She signed the guestbook. It's really cute. It made me smile. :)

Who did she play in "Children of Eden"?
She's amazing. Was she Yonah?
I loved her in BKLYN. I loved BKLYN. I saw it from the front row and was in awe the whole time.

wouldn't it be funny if she was a twin, since you mentioned to me before the Cleavant is a twin. :)
I still love your avatar, it makes me smile EVERY time!!)

Karmine and Yaz are sisters but not twins.
Loraine and Lauren Velez. Though Lauren was not in Rent.

I think I saw Lauren Velez perform at a camp that I worked at.
Too bad it wasn't Karen. :)

I believe Lauren is on the left and Loraine is on the right. Or maybe it's the other way around.

Sorry to say I saw Olivo in Rent back in 98.
She blew.
It surprised me to see she was an OBC in Brooklyn. I'm sure she fab.
I mean, people can change, right?

Posted: 11/28/04 at 6:10pmNever saw Karen in Rent but I loved her in BKLYN... she did a great job with the little material she was given to work with... I definitely think she needed more singing time! Um and can we say she's dating MATT CAPLAN, how lucky is this girl?!

zoran912-
She was Yonnah and also in the chorus in the first act. I really enjoyed her performance and made a mental note of her name and was happy to see she was cast in a new show. I have tickets to see BKLYN in late December.

I saw Karen as Mimi a few years ago and she was great! I was so excited because it was the 4th or 5th time I had seen Rent and it was the first time I had seen a Mimi who could actually sing the you-know-what out of the songs.
One of the best qualities that Karen has is that she is so genuine. I met her after seeing BKLYN a few weeks ago and she was extremely appreciative of the comments that people were showering her with. She wasn't like some Broadway performers who give you a fake smile as they sign something for you with complete disinterest. After seeing BKLYN so many times in Denver, I was looking forward to meeting Eden, but seeing the show in NY made me a huge supporter of Karen. I can't wait to see what she does next!

Karen at the stage door is interesting to watch. She usually one of the first people out and spends a nice amount of time talking to people. If someone asks her something, she'll talk for a bit. The first time that I saw her at the stagedoor, she came out eating an apple and very relaxed. :)
She's very friendly.
Eden is good at the stagedoor as well. She's always talking to people and the crowds love both these women.
Now I have a rent question, was there anyone else who played Mimi that had the last name Velez?

Karen really impressed me with her BKLYN work, though notably moreso in the pre-show press (Bryant Park, Denver demos, etc.) than the actual performance. Though that's probably because I was more excited about the show BEFORE I saw it.
Anyway, I love how much she really seems to enjoy being on the stage in Brooklyn. I wish she had more to do in the show, because reading the Bway Abridged, they were right. She moves the sets. That's pretty much it. But really, I thought she was great in Brooklyn with what she had to work with.
I've heard hot and cold things about her personality, but she seems cool to me. Not that her personality has anything to do with her talent.

Posted: 11/29/04 at 2:08pmBack in her Rent days she was very weird at the stage door. Kind of aloof, kind of just walked away before anyone could grab her. She was there for two weeks and gradually warmed up towards the end of the run (after seeing the same faces there night after night) but I wouldn't stretch so far as to call her "friendly."
