Just re-read this magnificent play last month. It doesn't need a re-write. And I don't know why the estate approved it.

Why would they approve it? Because they were thrilled it would be produced. And Turner explains her reasons for the update.
(I am unfamiliar with the play, so have no personal opinion of whether it is dated or not.)

Her direction of "Crimes of the Heart" sucked big time. She didn't understand the play or its characters.
Well for someone as disgusting and homophobic as you are Goth, I'm surprised you even opened this thread up since it deals with not only a director you don't like but lesbians, who we all know you find disgusting.

Ever the modest one, that Kathleen:
My favorite part of the night was when you conceded that you have indeed improved upon two of Elizabeth Taylor’s great roles, in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
[Laughs.] How could I resist!
You mentioned that one way in which you improved upon those roles was with your voice.
Yes! Elizabeth Taylor had a lousy voice.
You don’t hear many people say that.
No.

I'm not familiar with the play, but I know the movie which I understand made the lesbian aspect much more prominent. Can someone who has read the play give details about how they are different? (I know the lead is not a TV soap star in the play, and I've also read it's more satiric).

Sister George is actually a radio soap star in the play, and not television. I haven't seen the film -- can't seem to track it down -- so I can't speak beyond that. But reading the play is a great time. Have read it at least 3 times since first discovering it. Not sure what would need to be changed.
Apparently, the lesbians have been replaced with Mormons, and the presence of a strange redhaired street urchin has somehow been introduced into the storyline. Other than that, it's still the same play.
