Dropping in to deliver a fun piece of rumor-mongering news.
I was covering the red carpet last night for the film "The Switch" in LA, and Kathy Najimy happened to walk the carpet. She didn't stop for many interviews, but I managed to speak to her briefly about the possibility of her coming to Sister Act.
Me: Are we ever going to see you in Sister Act on Broadway? Kathy: You know, they JUST talked to me. Yeah, about playing, uh, Mother Superior! Me: Yep, Whoopi just did it in London. So, yeah!? Kathy: You know what, I might! I might!
It's not quite worth an article on the publication I work for, but I thought it was a fun tidbit to share with you all, especially given her enthusiasm and optimism.
Personally, I think she'd be wonderful. Judging by how funny she was in her other short interviews, she's still got it!
That is true, Mildred. Kathy would be great for fun, I think. But it would be better to have someone who really fits the character. And Dana Ivey would be perfect in the role.
Not that this matters, but she was in Step Up 3D and she has lost a LOT of weight. She looks really good and healthy.
So true! She looked fantastic.
And I so agree -- I would much rather see her reprise her role in the film, which personally I think is an ageless character that she's still young enough to play.
i agree, she is still young enough to play her original role, is it a big enough role in the stage version? I would love to see Swoosie Kurtz play the role. Is there a song involved? I bet that Montego actress will play the Whoopi role
I doubt they would replace Patina Miller with Montego Glover...she has had amazing reviews in this show...she is pretty much a lock on keeping the role...
I always thought Laura Benanti would be an excellent Sister Mary Robert, alas, she is already in a new musical this season that I hope lasts until Tony time!
