Highlights for me were of course Liza, Ben, and Bernadette. I thought every one did such a wonderful job and it was nice to see the theater community come together. They auctioned off 4 blankets for children that each went for $6,000. And, some one mentioned that the show raised over $200,000 in ticket sales.
Anyways, here's what I remember of who sang and who sang what. Brian Batt sang a pretty song about New Orleans Wicked sang a pretty song that I don't remember the name Liza and Ben did a bit of Magic to Do and Cabaret Ben-Memory and Corner of the Sky Brian D'Arcy James sang soomething pretty Bill Irwin did a baggy pant clowny number Light In Piazza sang Megan Hilty-Altos Lament Hairspray-I know where I've Been (Awesome by the way) Bernadette-No One Is Alone (sounded amazing) Movin' Out-Shameless (i think was the name) Susan Lucci-A Song about NY (she sounded pretty good and looked great) Idina-an accoustic version of I'll Cover You B-Way Inspirational Voices Liza opened act II with What Did I Have (sounded great) Ave Q-Only For Now Spelling Bee-an interpetation of the governments reaction to the crisis (sooo funny) BeBe Neworth-The World Goes 'Round (isn't that Liza's Song?) Shoshana-Coronet Man All Shook Up Adrienne Lenox (was great...what a gorgeous voice) Patrick Wilson Rent-Seasons of Love Liza Minnelli-New York New York
I Know I'm forgetting people. It was a really lovely evening...congrats to all involved
It was a wonderful night, but unfortunately I became too tired at the end to enjoy it to its fullest. The performers were great, but some songs just went on for too long.
Wow, it was amazing. I'm too tired to go into much detail..
Shoshana sounded great, even though she was coming out of her dress a little! hah. Megan Hilty was cute as ever... Idina sounded and looked gorgeous.. Brian d'Arcy James is wonderful (I'm a huge fan..) Liza and Ben were great.. it was all great. I'll leave it up to someone else to do a detailed review, I need to go pass out. Amazing night.
Does anyone know if this was televised for a PBS or a DVD release?
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Lennoz was AMAZING. And the mic that didn't work, kind of made the song a little. It was moving ot hear one, quiet, solitary voice singing that song. Go figure, I'm strange.
By the way, I was wearing a light blue shirt and a black skirt. Sorry if I burned your retinas, but did you see me> Lol.
Idina's performance of "I'll Cover You" had me teary eyed. There! I admit it. It was absolutely beautiful. I did notice some gasping here and there, but she sounds well rested and healthy. I'm glad to hear that after the problems she had towards the end of her run. Oh, and she got a standing ovation from most of the audience when she came out. Nice to see.
Shoshana's rendition of "Cornet Man" was awesome. When she first came out, the mic stand was up too high, so she had trouble getting it down and when she finally started the song, she flubbed the first line. So, she asked to start from the beginning and the audience all had a laugh. She asked "Ugh, can we try that again? Ugh. I'm gonna go out and come back in!" It was actually quite funny. She came back out and hammed it up on the way to the mic. It was cute. "Cornet Man" is one of my favorite songs and I've heard her sing it before, but tonight was better. So yeah, a whole paragraph about Shoshana.
Bernadette was perfect as always. Not much to add.
Bebe was surprisingly good. I'm not a big fan, but did quite well.
The entire evening was an unforgettable event. So many great performers and performances to mention. Updated On: 9/26/05 at 01:33 AM
I loved it, I must add to the it is far too late to post anything that makes sense crowd. The show was great though. Liza, Bernadette, Ben the rest was just gravey.
Aww Dave I'm slightly jealous that Bernadette was on your side the whole time, but I guess it made up for it having Daniel Sunjata(I looove him) and Jai 3 feet from me...and helped direct Phylicia and Chris Sieber to audience members.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
For Liza's first song, I thought she was going to sing Maybe This Time, and I almost died. The beginning of the song sounded just like it! But, she did like a like from Cabaret, so that was tres cool.
It was a wonderful night. I was disappointed not to see Brooke there because she is doing such a wonderful job in Chicago right now. But my highlights have to be Bebe, Liza and Bernadette. Bernadette I thought sounded amazing!
