Hey guys, so you've heard quite a bit from me this past week about how cool Keala is. However, I thought I'd go one step further and create this site. There are a lot of little hidden message around the site--have fun looking for them!! I just created it last night, so please give me some time to keep improving it.
Mom Settle sent me the family history today which I am very grateful for.
Keala is also going to answer some questions for me so I can put them on the site: Are there any questions you'd like me to ask her?!
There is also a message board, so tell Keala how much you love her!! Lol, or just talk there.
Give me your feed back too, on here, or e-mail me, so I can keep making it better!!
I hope this makes people want to see the tour, and how so they see how amazing Keala is. What can I say? I'm a teenager with a minimal social life and too much time on my hands, with a handprint left in my heart by the Hawaiian Tracy!!!
So get looking!!

That's awesome. Thanks for the link!
Bump.
Dannah,
2 questions for Keala:
1. How do you find professional theatre different from educational theatre, particularly in terms of character study/building a character, and working with the director? Which do you prefer?
2. How do you maintain the physical and vocal health to have such an impeccable attendance record for your 3 years in the tour?
I'll be sure to ask her as soon as I get a few more questions...any body have anymore??
I can answer the first question above...
The paycheck
i love the site, i think its great what you're doing. but one minor little thing... Keala is not Hawaiian, if you are using the term to mean an indigenous Hawaiian native. She is Maori (native of New Zealand), and went to school in hawaii... just thought i'd clear that up!
Thanks...I was just stating that she is native to Hawaii...b/c she was born there. Is what I'm saying correct then? I want to be sure that it's right.
well... technically the same term is used for native hawaiian (indigenous) and a person born and raised there, the difference being the native hawaiian is of hawaiian ancestry and has hawaiian blood, the other does not. Just wanted to make sure you were using the term to mean she was born there, but not an indigenous hawaiian person.
sorry to be so picky! you're doing a great job with the pidgin, by the way (the hawaiian slang)!
Haha thanks. I only used the Hawaiian words b/c Mrs.Settle said them first--I was going to use some I had found off of the internet, but then I ran the risk of saying something insulting or totally idiotic on accident by trusting translators lol.
.LW. I must mention...I love your avatar...and the one you had before this too!

Kia Ora: Thank you for your observations this is Kealas Mom - Just so everyone is cool. Thank you for pointing out the differences in wordage. Hawaiians are cousins to the Maori people when Hawaiians say Aloha Maoris say Aroha both have the same meaning. Keala has always acknowledged Hawaii as her place of birth and the place that she grew up in. She speaks a mean pigeon language that only the local kine can comprehend. If you ask Keala where home is she will not hesitate to tell you Hawaii. She was born in Kahuku Hospital went to Laie Elementary is a graduate of Kahuku High and BYUHawaii not to mention an alumnus of the canoe show at PCC. In addition to all of this Kealas roots are with her maori people in New Zealand through her genealogy and her extended whanau who live in NZ and around the world. She will forever be connected to NZ by the land and Family homestead that she inherited from her grandfather. I think for now it is ok for Keala to be connected to the islands that she loves so much. When and if the time comes for her to change her Aloha to Aroha trust me Keala will tell us.
Thank you both for being sensative & understanding of each other
Aroha mai to you both. Kealas Mom
Thank you for the explination Mom Settle! Much love.
Dannah
Mrs. Settle, thanks for clearing that up! I've had the privelege to study the maori culture and have many hula sisters who have travelled to new zealand to live for a while and truly appreciate your understanding and appreciation of both the hawaiian and maori culture and their deep connections to each other.
Of course Keala can speak some mean pidgin the way only us locals can understand! I will be able to see her at least once in the fall and can't wait. My sister and myself plan on bringing her some local kine treats that i'm sure she misses so much and just telling her how much we admire all that she has achieved! your presence on this board has been a wonderful treat, mahalo nui loa!

Kia Ora to you both:
I have to tell you it took us forever to get her to buy some dresses and dress shoes when she moved out to NY. The shopping cart was full of T Shirts, Shorts and Slippers. She will love you for life if you bring her Hawaiian food. Dannah can vouch to the fact that if you were to walk into her dressing room you half expect to hear the waves on the beach because thats all thats missing. In the islands Keala was a real tita even when she moved to Vegas. However I can safetly say she can now act the part but when she and Bett Middler got together step back because not being kamaina people didn't have the faintest idea what they were talking about. To my island friends as the saying goes "you can take the girl out of the islands but you can't take the island out of the girl." Thank you for your kind comments about Keala and I can promise you this if you go to see her and she knows your from the islands you'll go straight to the front of the line. If you don't mind me asking what island are you from and are you both in theatre or music?
Drop me a line if you can and Mahalo nui loa to you two. Kealas Mom
Night Dannah get some sleep you have to go to school tomorrow I don't. pomare e (Goodnight)

I'm on summer vacation!!! However, sleep does not sound like a bad idea.
Bump. Just in case.
Check out the site guys!! There are now tons of pictures of Keala from Hairspray, and some with her family. There are also a few sites to help understand her culture.

The pictures are amazing!! <<
And I can answer the second question rKrispyt:
She loves what she does so she doesn't want to stop working even when she feels one under (Which is silly Keala because you MUST REST more than once every 3 years). That and she's as stubborn as her mother - and that's stubborness of biblical proportions.
P.S. she talks constantly at very loud volumes so that's how here vocal chords are so in shape :p~
In case you might have thought I was serious, I wasn't.
Only kidding guys!
Keala is lovely, and most talented person I've ever known and I'm very proud of her.
Was Keala a standby on Broadway at one point?
