No offense to Keith Carradine, I liked him in WILL ROGERS FOLLIES, but I'm not so sure he'll be a good Lawrence.
He's quite the actor, and I too enjoyed him in Will Rogers Follies. He's played so many different roles over the years, I'm sure he'd be fine in this as well.

Thanks for posting that.
I'm gonna miss Pryce
Wow, I expected, and was hoping for, some sort of a name. I mean, I didn't even know who he was except for the fact that there are too many Carradine brothers. He'd better be good...
Edit for spelling error.

Dear Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,
I worry about you.
He's a great actor. When I first heard he was going to be Will Rogers...I thought, WTF? But man, he ate that role up and was a real audience pleaser.
As for his name, He's done plays and musicals before, and, of course, plenty of tv movies. But not quite enough to have that "name recognition" with the Broadway audiences. His family name is indeed the main reason people recognize him. His father was an incredible actor of astounding accomplishment. His preacher in Grapes of Wrath haunts me.
I have confidence that Keith will be just fine in the DRS role.

I'm sure he will be fine. He was nominated for Best Actor (Tony) in "Will Rogers Follies". He won an Oscar for Best Original Song for "Nashville" and he is great in "Deadwood".
One thing, though. Im sure I read earlier that he was going to do the tour so I guess that role is open again.
I'm very excited.
I hope I get to see him in it!
I forgot about Deadwood! Excellent show, btw. Didn't he win a grammy or something for that "I'm Easy" song? Not that I like that song...yuck..."I'm easy like sunday morning"...bleech.

I know he got an Oscar for it. I liked "I'm Easy".
I'm sure he'll be great... but he sure as hell isn't going to keep the show open.

Justme2, you’re thinking of a different song (“Easy” by Lionel Richie/The Commodores).

And this is based on? Give the man a chance first.
Am I? I always thought Carradine wrote that song...I'll have to look it up now!
You're right! A completely different song. I don't think I've ever heard this one. The lyrics don't even sound familiar. To think all these years I'v blamed Carradine for that Ritchie song...I feel terrible.
I'm Easy
Keith Carradine
It's not my way to love you just when no one's looking.
It's not my way to take your hand if I'm not sure,
It's not my way to let you see what's going on inside of me,
When it's a love you'll not be needing, you're not free.
Please stop pulling at my sleeve if you're just playing,
If you'll not take the things you make me want to give,
I never cared too much for games and this one's driving me insane.
You're not half as free to wander as you claim.
I'm easy, I'm easy. Say the word, I'll play your game,
As though that's how it ought to be. I'm easy.
Don't lead me on if there's nowhere for you to take me,
If loving you will have to be a sometime thing.
I can't put bars on my insides; my love is something I can't hide
I still hurt when I recall the times I've tried. I'm easy, I'm easy.
Take my hand and pull me down.
I won't put up any fight, because I'm easy.
Don't do me favors, let me watch you from a distance,
Cause when you're near, it's hard for me to keep my head.
When your eyes throw light at mine, it's enough to change my mind
Make me leave my cautious ways and world behind.
I'm easy. I'm easy

Check out the movie, "Nashville". He sings it there. It's a good movie, too.
I guess I'll have to now.
Now, I saw Will Rogers 3 times, and followed the show's tour reviews and such back in the early nineties. So, a few years ago, I was listening to the Comcast "Broadway Tunes" channel, and they are playing a song from Will Rogers. Hoty is singing, and they have little facts about her popping up on the side. One of the facts was "Hoty was engaged to Keith Carradine in 1994". I never see her refer to this in interviews, nor him. Was it rumor or fact? Anyone know?

I'm definitely not trying to insult him.. I know I'll be seeing him. But he's not a name draw, and DRS has seemed to rely on that pretty heavily. I really am not hoping the show closes.. I'm just worried.

He might be better known than people think but time will tell. Wasn't he in a sitcom last year? Plus he's been around a long time in film and on TV.
Except for those of us who follow Broadway, I'm not sure the general public is aware of who Norbert Leo Butz is or even Mr. Pryce. John Lithgow is known from TV but the others?
As I have said many times before, once Norb leaves this show wont have much longer. A great attempt to save this show would have been to bring in a name, and unfortunately this is just another nail in the coffin, no matter if he is good or not, he just does not have the pull.

But who outside of Broadway followers ever heard of Norbert Leo Butz? Tony or no Tony I don't think people coming to NYC say to themselves, "Let's go see Norbert Leo Butz". :)
yep, i hear folks from all over saying time and time again, "man i gotta get me to nyc to see that norbert guy!"
outside the rosey world of broadway message boards you'll find a whole lot more people who recognize the name keith carradine (or any carradine for that matter, even revenge of the nerds' robert) than either norbert leo butz or jonathan pryce. oh sure, they can see pryce's face and say, "oh yeah, that guy." but butz? wasn't he a character on hill street blues?
I hardly think his casting means DRS is closing, I just do not know how he will do in the part.
THE PRODUCERS lasted and has thrived long after Nathan & Matthew departed.
The show is popular and will continue I have no doubt.
He was great in Will Rogers but I am not sure he can pull this one off
No disrespect intended but could they get no one else.
