Kelli O'Hara: 'King and I' is "a fun play with music"

She says it's not vocally demanding compared to Bridges of Madison County.

Also: Brian d'Arcy James does a movie with Michael Keaton; Robert Fairchild on filling Gene Kelly's shoes; and Brian Stokes Mitchell on his mentor, Chita Rivera.

She's certainly not wrong, Gertrude Lawrence didn't have the greatest voice in the world, and as a result Anna is not a very big range. They're good songs that she sings (Hello Young Lovers and Shall I Tell You What I Think of You are among Rodgers & Hammerstein's best), but it's not a vocally demanding score.

"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."

And the songs, for the most part, don't really propel the plot forward. So I guess it is kind of a play with music.

I'm shocked that a human being gets paid big bucks to write such garbage!

"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one". -Felicia Finley-
