What exciting news! I always seem to pair these two together in my brain. They were even both at a luncheon I attended three months ago. Both sweethearts, both great singers...not to mention new productions of English-language operas are rarely a bad thing.
I'm proud to share that this is my choral group. I've been a member for over 25 years (as well as on the Board). We are thrilled to be able to present this. And I'm beyond excited that I'll be singing in it.
Update: April 2016: For a variety of reasons I won't be singing, but I'll be at the gala benefit and will be there both nights. We had a small musicale evening recently, and Vicky sounded glorious!
"Two drifters off to see the world. There's such a lot of world to see. . ."
Starting to get very excited about this even though I don't know much about opera. The gowns by Christian Siriano look beautiful. Who else is going? Break a leg Addy.
It's a baroque opera, so it will be a different experience from seeing something like Carmen or La Boheme, which are somewhat easier for people coming from musical theater. But it is a gorgeous score, and we can expect some great singing. I am very much looking forward to it.
Here's the "hit tune" from the score, "When I'm laid in earth," also known as "Dido's Lament," sung by the great diva Jessye Norman:
So excited for this! Hope Kelli does more opera in the future- Would love to see her sing Deh Vieni Non Tardar, a beautiful aria from Mozart's Le Nozze Di Figaro and Una Voce Poco Fa, a classic coloratura aria from Rossini's Il Barbiere Di Siviglia. I'm not sure if she'd be cast in either at the Met too soon, but it would be wonderful if she could create an opera album or something. I'm excited to hear both her and Victoria Clark singing in this.
