re: Is Mrs. Lovett the truly evil one?

Mar 1, 2026 — 10:47:16 PM

Mrs. Lovett is in some ways the most evil one as her not disclosing that Lucy is actually alive may have resulted in him taking the path that he did but.. what would he have done if he had known the truth? Lucy most likely would have been too damaged by then to be able to return fully to her old self. And that might have spurred Todd into action in order to avenge her anyway. But Todd’s actions aren’t justified either because he kills innocent people. The Beadle and the Judge are terrible peo...

It's completely exhausting to be on Broadway at any age, but the older you get the harder it gets to be able to perform that muc...

No, I hate MAGA. Violence is never the solution. Period. Yes, he was a terrible person and I'm not in mourning for him but it doesn't justify him being killed.

What exactly does she need to apologize for? As awful as Kirk was, him being assassinated was a terrible moment. Chenoweth grew up in a divided political household in the Bible Belt so her reacting how she did is not a surprise to me particularly as she herself was a swing voter until right after Obama was elected. All of this is in her book.

I'm sad to hear all the negative reviews- hopefully the show will get better and Chenoweth can get a second Tony.

"Dancing Through Life" and "Defying Gravity" particularlystood out as highlights this time when I thought they were the parts of the film that stalled the most on first viewing. Knowing I was going to be sitting through a 21-minute sequence in DTL made it better this time around. And yes, I clocked it.As a Broadway fa...

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!

Kad said: "Gypsy has never been a smash hit show. Of the 5 productions thus far, none of them have cracked 2 years. LuPone and Lansbury didn’t even last a year, Peters made it just over a year, Daly was a year and a half, and the original production was a couple months shy of 2."The Great Recession happened before Patti could make it to a year, we have to remember that.

I’ve never seen a UK audience react like that- as well documented , standing ovations are earnt In the UK not obligatory like in NYC. And what an ovation she got at every performance.I agree she was brilliant. but I have never seen a performance differ so much from live stage to video. Perhaps Im...

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!

Sutton still comes across as too young persona-wise but you know, the real Rose was younger than she is now when she got her kids into all this so I feel like the role could be played by younger actresses generally. We see young stage moms on shows like Toddler and Tiaras and in real life. The role has been played by older actors/character types for the most part which I think is a great thing but there should be more variety in casting.

Who is the frontrunner for Best Leading Actress in a Musical right now?

Audra has six Tony’s and (wrongly) has a lot of ill-will directed towards her from how her last Broadway gig went down among producers in the voting pool. Audra doesn’t need 7 IMO. Especially when Patti was so legendary in the role." I'm not as frequent of a user on here so just to double-check, this is referencing Shuffle Along right?

I'm personally pulling hard for Chenoweth- she is absolutely overdue for a second Tony after 25 years since her first and she amazingly has only been nominated three times throughout her career. She's one of the best Broadway stars of all time. It's a shame she had to go up against Kelli in The King& I nine years ago. I remember not being that bowled over when I sawOn the Twentieth Century but I've fallen in love ...

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!

singer234 said: "I had the same thought about her voice. I worry that this is a case of the “suttons” (aka an established musical theatre star who keeps taking on roles she’s not “right for” to push herself and because she wants to play them). Regardless, I doubt Audra would do it if she wasn’t sure she’d be brilliant, so I’m keeping an open mind!" I think her voice will be fine- you hear her do a lot of strong mixing in her concert repertoire that will easily work here. It's an older style o...

But I hope that means Chenoweth can clear the field for 2026.
