Saw an (unsurprisingly) outstanding concert by Kelli O'Hara tonight with the LA Opera Orchestra at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. After a particularly taxing week, and a tremendously stressful month here in Los Angeles, a couple of hours with her and her gorgeous voice was just what I needed to recharge and to feel positive and hopeful again. The power of art! Here's the setlist:
Act One: Selections from Oklahoma! (orchestral)/Pure Imagination/What More Do I Need?/A Cockeyed Optimist/Tomorrow/If I Loved You/Getting to Know You/So in Love/Not Funny/Fable/The Impossible Dream (w/ Aaron Lazar)/I Could Have Danced All Night
Act Two: Selections from Fiddler on the Roof (orchestral)/He Loves Me/This Nearly Was Mine/The Sun Went Out (w/ husband Greg Naughton)/Children Will Listen/So Big So Small/To Build a Home/They Don't Let You in the Opera (If You're a Country Star)
Encores: Beautiful City/La Vie en Rose
.
Kelli is fantastic in concert! So incredibly talented. Thanks for posting your review and set list. I was torn between seeing her again last night, or seeing Eva Noblezada at The Soraya in Northridge. I opt'd for Eva.
By the way, Kelli's concert was at The Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.

So glad I got to see her in concert last year when she came to Ann Arbor! What a talent!

Kelli was wonderful but the sound system not so. If you were unfamiliar with any of the songs (such as I was with the satire piece about country star at the opera,) it was nearly impossible to hear a lot of the lyrics. I would have preferred just Kelli, a piano and a few more musicians. She was drowned out by the full orchestra sometimes and other times the sound system swallowed any diction.
