Posted: 8/18/10 at 9:08pmAnyone know how they prevent her mic from getting wet during "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair"? Weird question, I know... but it struck me while watching it tonight... you can clearly see the mic on her hairline...

I thought I saw the white chord that was down her back in one early scene peaking out from her bathing strap following the shower.
Can anyone confirm?

Posted: 8/19/10 at 12:31amThere definitely was not a wire down her back. Either the mic pack & mic are waterproofed somehow and in her wig (most likely) or for the shower scene her mic & pack are in her bra.

Mic packs are usually put into unlubricated condoms to prevent them from being damaged from performer's sweat, I'm sure they do something similar.

Posted: 8/19/10 at 1:36amThere definitely was a wire down her back as she picked up her shorts during There is Nothing Like a Dame. It was loose and clearly evident. It disappeared in the shower scene.

Posted: 8/19/10 at 2:48amI want to say I read a feature story on the special sound tech specific to this scene from the tour's facebook page. I tried to locate it, but couldn't find it. Anyone else remember this?

Since I collect this magazine religiously...

What kind of mics did you use on the actors?
We're basically using DPAs on everybody, except on Kelli we used Countryman lavs because they are super water resistant, and it made the “I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My hair” number easier because we just left the mics on her while she showered.
How did that scene work audio-wise?
She actually had to move the transmitters around, but the mics are on her head. She's wearing a wig, and the microphones themselves are under her wig. We couldn't fit the transmitters in the wig because it was too small, so we put the transmitters on her body, and moved them into her bikini top for that scene.
What did you place around the transmitters so that they wouldn't get wet?
We basically used Saran Wrap. They were tested once when she dropped them in the toilet and they stayed dry. We realized that the worked pretty well. She sheepishly came backstage and said, “I dropped one of my transmitters in the toilet.”
