I think she's capable of doing a Broadway show. I mean if people like Toni Braxton can do Broadway, why not Kelly?
I saw this link and at the bottom of the page, there's another link to a clip of Kelly singing Fiona's big solo from BRIGADOON. Yes, it's a high school production, but she sure sounded good for a high school student. Kelly sounds like she has a very good legit soprano.

this was the clip i was talking about...who knew kelly was a strong soprano?
And I agree that yes, there are many musical theatre graduates who will never get to the Broadway stage because "stars" get their chance first, but at least Kelly can sing. Some stars who do Broadway shows are horrible. It may not be fair, but that's how the business works.

I can never get VH1 clips to play on my computer (grr), but I vaguely remember seeing a bit of it on Before They Were Stars. I really like Kelly Clarkson, and think that she has a genuinely beautiful voice. I could easily see her as Belle in Beauty and the Beast (and actually think that'd be really good casting), but she just doesn't seem to project a Maureen vibe, and I can't see her acting it. I mean, more power to her if she could, but she seems to have the wide-eyed and innocent image going for her.
The idea of her as Elphaba is intriguing, though. I could almost see it, but I think that actresses playing that role are more effective when they're not in perfect technique. For example, the end of Shoshana's Defying Gravity, while probably technically better than Idina's, doesn't seem to fit the role as well as sort of the wilder singing that borders on screaming (but hopefully isn't). I know that some people hate that, and I'm sure it can't be great for the vocal cords of the singer in question, but it IS the Wicked Witch of the West that we're talking about. Anyway, from what I've seen, Kelly hasn't demonstrating the acting ability to carry a show like Wicked, but I guess anything's possible.

I think Kelly has a good voice, I'd like to see her act before I give a final judgement. She could pull off some things, maybe more than we expect of her.
I don't see her as an Elphaba or a Maureen, though. She might be able to pull it off vocally but I don't really see her in the roles.

ok so the more that i think about the less i could really see her as maureen...however i still think vocally she would fit.
Belle would be a good role for her (now that i know she actually is a legit soprano) but that is kind of type casting because she's niec and sweet in person as well.
I just want to see her step out of the box soon. I can only listen to her scream a song for so much longer...i love her , but really.

I saw her in concert twice, once at Jingleball and once on the Independent Tour with Clay Aiken. She can't connect with an audience...at all. If she can't even do that, I doubt she can act and make an audience like her. Also, she SCREAMS a lot of her songs. She wouldn't be so good, I don't think. Maybe a small role would suit her.

I agree with, Wickedone2. Kelly would make a great role as Maureen. And dont find me stupid for saying this but, she'd make an OK Elphaba.

i think she'd be great on broadway, especially in RENT.
also, regarding From Justin to Kelly, Anika Noni Rose was in it, and she wasn't so great in it, and look what she got a few years later, so i don't think we can judge Kelly's performance in that, because it's just a terrible movie.
