Posted: 11/4/05 at 10:28pmThere's something about Kelly's personality that would make her a good actress, I think. People who have seen From Justin to Kelly will concur.

Posted: 11/4/05 at 11:08pmI remember seeing something on a "before they were stars" thing a clip of kelly in Brigadoon...I believe she had the lead. Anyway in the clip they showed she sounded amazing...however the acting was.....mediocre to say the least. BUT that was 8 years ago and people can take acting class to improve. I would give the girl a chance b/c i've seen quite a few leading ladies that couldn't act their way out of a box. I know kelly sings better than most of those mentioned women. So yea I think she should try it out. Maureen would be a good part for her and possibly if she turns out to be a good actress she would be an amazing elphie (vocally at least). (look at some of the elphabas we have right now...some of them...not so talented in the acting department anyway)

I would just like to say that I do like her last CD.
However, you can't just think that because she's a great singer, you can put her on a Broadway stage and hope for the best. She has to ACT while she's up there as well and from what I've seen, she does NOT have the ability to pull it off. And based on live performances she's done in recent months, she barely has the vocal ability anymore and definitely couldn't make it 8 times a week.
There's more than enough American Idols in Rent already and I honestly can't see her as Maureen.

Anybody else see Kelly as Belle?
I could also see her pulling off an Eponine, or any role in Hair or Godspell.

I think she'd be great on Broadway. Some may doubt her acting abilities, but many of today's performers on Broadway are singers that are chosen fot heir voices not their acting abilities. The directors can teach someone to act (just about sufficiently) in a short period, but they can't teach them to sing.

Posted: 11/5/05 at 7:00amShe's on a lot of tv at the moment over here in the UK promoting 'Because of You' and her voice sounds just great. I saw the AOL concert and her voice was a bit shot in places but she's obviously rested up a bit. She deserves to be massive over here (and you should adopt Will Young over there!).

Acting can always be improved.
I love Kelly to death, went to see her concert twice. Crazy high belter... and I just love her.
Bring her to Broadway, as long as she's ready, I think there will be a lot of audiences who will be ready too.

Posted: 11/5/05 at 1:46pmI used to like her voice a lot more than I do now. I feel like she feels the need to scream when she sings, and it really doesn't work for me. I could do without more screamers, and I really can't see her doing Broadway at all. It just doesn't seem like it would work.JMO

I agree about the Maureen comments, and I think she could probably kick ass as Eponine. Any role involving crazy belting and lots of feeling.
Maybe her acting isn't phenomenal right now, but she has never really had a chance to showcase it besides in her music videos and in TheMovieWeShallNotMention. She may not be a lost cause, and if that's the case, it might be nothing a rigorous amount of acting classes and practice can't cure.

Posted: 11/5/05 at 6:13pmMaybe some of you guys say she can't act is probebly because you think she has no stage presence. But stage presence can be improved. I mean I would love to see her as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray, or Belle in BATB (that's Beauty and the Beast)or Eponine in Les Miz if it ever came to the screen.

Kelly Clarkson in Les Mis the movie?! Over my dead body. Her name belongs nowhere near one of the most brilliant pieces of literature of all time, especially when it's immortalized on film.
And I'm perfectly aware of the difference between "acting" and "stage presence". Kelly has neither ability at this point, so just because she might possibly potentially be good if she's placed in acting classes to help her learn, doesn't convince me.
By this theory, if you placed ANYONE in the right classes, they could make it on a Broadway stage, when this quite obviously isn't the case. Why is Kelly so much more special than all the thousands of musical theater graduates across the nation? Because she won a reality show? Please.

Posted: 11/5/05 at 6:37pmLook I kinda sorta heard somewhere in a magazine about Kelly that she said she always wanted to be on Broadway. Because she was in a few musicals during her four years in high school
#45re: Kelly Clarkson...
Posted: 11/5/05 at 6:40pmI think she'd be good. I dunno if she can act tho, but if she can then ya.

Posted: 11/5/05 at 6:41pmI like the Elphaba comment...I'd think it'd be nice to hear her attempt to sing the WICKED material like Defying Gravity and As Long As You're Mine.

I would love to see Kelly on Broadway someday. I am not sure if she can act, but I don't think it is fair to judge her ability on "From Justin to Kelly". The best actress in the world wouldn't have been able to do anything with that horrible script.
I also think Kelly has done a lot more than winning American Idol at this point. Her cd has been amazingly successful and she has garnered recognition well past the tv show.
BTW, her voice is in great shape. The video below is from last week in the UK:
