I submitted a recommendation for Stritch first. Next, Liza!

Posted: 5/17/13 at 7:34pmStrich and Channing have really done nothing amazing culturally. They are well respected and loved but that is about it. Liza is more deserving. She has well cemented her place in pop culture, the arts, as well as the fight against aids.

Well if it happens. I did not mean to imply that I know anything. I am just putting it out there that it is time.

>> "Well if it happens. I did not mean to imply that I know anything. I am just putting it out there that it is time."
..and this is a perfect example of my "queer" sensibility for humor.
The irony that "DAME" in the Spanish language is the English equivalent of "GIMME" is not lost on me in this singular, example post...
Even if nobody else gets it, I LOVE it!

Posted: 5/18/13 at 1:16amIt seems absurd to me that she hasn't been honored yet.

Why should the Kennedy Center honor Liza? Her career has been uneven and her time has come and been long gone. Her last major movie was New York, New York in 1977.
The last time she originated a role on Broadway was in The Rink in 1984. A Kennedy Center Honor should not be given for survival.

You forget a tiny little monster hit called "Arthur."
You also seem to think that these honors are only given at the peak of someone's career.
You also seem to think that originating roles on Broadway or in movies is the only criteria by which she should be judged. Not concerts or one-woman shows or anything else.
Do you even watch the ceremony on TV? Have you seen the other people honored for their bodies of work?

Honor should not be given for survival.
Shouldn't it?

Posted: 5/18/13 at 12:54pmCompared to past winners of the Kennedy Center Honors, Liza's body of work is thin. She hasn't grown as an artist. Most of her act was frozen years ago.

Chita WAS honored a few years ago.
@A Director; I don't know how to respond to you .. since you are so wrong and misinformed. A little googling might help you. Just to touch on her career.. you skipped on Stepping Out, Arrested Development, Liza's At The Palace ( just to name a few) , and all her tours,, which are still going on as of last weekend. Not only that.. but her charity work and her true love and encouragement of the performer make her so special. And your comment of " A Kennedy Center Honor should not be given for survival."... REALLY? I think you just commented to stir the pot.

You should be punched repeatedly for that statement.

Posted: 5/18/13 at 3:01pmLiza being a Kennedy Center honoree is everything I could hope for. She really is the perfect example of what I would hope an honoree to be. She has such a varied career, she's iconic, and she just seems like such a wonderful person and supporter of the arts.

Thanks Dame and A director, I was under the impression she hadn't, I already found the clip.
I'm not saying Barbara is undeserving, I just think she hasn't contributed as much as Liza has to culture and arts. Barbra of course is insanely talented as well.
The mere fact of stepping out of her mother's iconic shadow deserves recognition. She has been able to successfully crossover between Broadway, Hollywood and even Pop and to this day remains a global icon.
