I'm intrigued by shows that just seem impossible to do on stage. I love when a company announces a show and you just have to wonder how they're going to achieve it. I mean is no one else even slightly curious about the sets and staging for this show? Yeah it'll be partly animatronic, but one of the great things about theatre is seeing all of the genius ways in which parts of the show are presented to a live audience.
Yeah, there are tons of actors and singers who are extremely talented and shouldn't be upstaged by a spectacle, but look at it this way: Do the highly intelligent designers who manage to put that spectacle on stage not deserve some recognition for the impossible things they manage to do in a small space in front of a live audience?
Would love to hear a song about "Red Hot Monkey Lovin" or "Gorilla My Dreams."
This is neat.
I posted a few weeks ago on a thread here on BWW that I wanted to see a King Kong musical come to Broadway. Cool!

The cast is sensational, but hasn't been released to the public yet: Patti LuPone as Ann Darrow, Nathan Lane as King Kong, and Tommy Tune as the Empire State Building. All singing! All dancing! All KONG!
Honestly, this just seems like such a bad idea. Indicative of what's wrong with theater today.

Candydog, completely agree. And given the choice between Spiderman and King Kong.....I'd take King Kong anyday.
I wonder if there will be a Rockette style kick line of natives for the Welcome To Skull Island production number?
And I can't wait to hear the love duet between Kong and the girl.
