My 7yo saw a promo video clip of KB and really wants to see it. I’ve actually seen it, but it was several years ago and I don’t remember enough details. Help me out? Is this a terrible idea? What red flags exist within the show? We are a queer family so nothing in that area bothers me, and cursing is ok, but violence, substance abuse, and especially overt sexuality would be problematic, and any mentions of murder or suicide are a big no. He also tends to get bored if portions of the story move slowly (romance, for example).
Any thoughts appreciated!
I’ll add that I’m not concerned about his ability to sit through the show, he’s already proven that many times over. And I think he can handle the overall content just fine - just don’t want to expose him to anything alarming without realizing it.
Thanks!

I haven't seen it since it opened, but I really don't think there's anything overtly sexual or "kinky" about it. I've sent some religious folks there and they enjoyed it. There is the big number slow song, so if he's bored by slow songs... might be an issue. Might actually be too young for the show IMHO.

I also saw it a few years ago and don't remember anything inappropriate. I even remember this video marketing it towards kids.

Kids love it. I thing the message is great for people of any age.

Given everythiing you said, I think it would be fine. (There are a few circumstances of language, but they are of the British vernacular - so they come off more tame.)
Have fun.

Posted: 8/10/18 at 5:28pmI also saw it several years ago (2013) and don’t recall anything too problematic. As far as violence, there is the boxing match. And there is the song “Sex is in the Heel” but there is no overt sexual activity as I recall. TKTS lists 13 under Age Guidance, but based on what you’ve described I think your 7 y.o. would be fine. I think they are assuming kids younger than 13 wouldn’t find the themes interesting or understand them. That’s clearly not the case here. BTW, 13 is also the age listed for Hello, Dolly!

It's a very tame musical. Unless the word "sex" (with no visual representation) causes you to clutch your pearls with a spell of the vapors, it'll be fine.

Thanks so much, all! Sounds like he’d be fine, and I know he’d enjoy the big production numbers so we’ll probably go for it. I really appreciate the input!

Can I just applaud you for taking your child’s interest in the show seriously and not just assuming that because they’re 7, the only shows that will appeal to them are Aladdin, Frozen, or The Gazillion Bubble show. All those shows have merit and have their place, but I really appreciate parents that are willing to consider shows based on their particular children and the values of your family.
You’ll be fine and I hope he has a great time.
