Kristin would be perfect as Elle. I have seen Legally Blonde twice and enjoy it very much, but think the weakest part of the show is Laura Bell Bundy. She is capable, but surpisingly got the least audience laughs of everybody on stage (both times). And she does have funny lines on paper--where if they were delivered by Kristin, Reese, or even Kerry Butler would have elicited huge audience laughs.
I did buy her more as Elle upon my second viewing, but the stage presence is sorely lacking.
And since when does actual age matter when casting for movies, TV, or Broadway? Rarely ever.

:)
And I am reading this thread correctly. Are some people saying that Chenoweth looks like she could play someone just out of college? I think she looks every year of her almost forty.

I don't see how it could be a "bigger" hit if she was in it. Even if people off the street DO recognize her, I bet you they don't know her name off the top of their heads. So if it was marketed as "Kristin Chenoweth in 'Legally Blonde'" the ticket sales probably would look about the same.
Judging by the good ratings that ABC TV's PUSHING DAISIES has been getting since it started, I don't expect Miss Chenoweth to be back on Broadway until the series goes on hiatus in Spring 2008. And even then...she'd only be available for a few months during the summer and then she'd be back to PUSHING DAISIES when it resumes filming in early Fall.
Seems she finally got the TV break she'd been seeking for many, many years. Alas, its a supporting role, but she's been fortunate that the writers have given her character, Olive, shining moments (that "Hopelessly Devoted to You" sequence being one of them).

I really don't know why we keep coming back to this. It's not going to happen.
Cheno is gorgeous, talented and could play Elle Woods in her sleep. Of course she'd be perfect. But she didn't and doesn't need the show.
And here we go with the TOO OLD whines. You should all hope to look that great after years of a successful career.
The only reason she's "too old" is because you know how old she is. Period. She looks as youthful as she ever has.
I think she's great, most of the time. And of course, she's beautiful and talented. But a 39- year- old Elle Woods? Terrible idea. Unless they conceived the show as someone said earlier in this thread, as a Grease- like, older- playing- younger parody...
This just would not work. She might come off cute-sy and fun onstage, but this doesn't directly mean that she comes off young.
Going off that picture and the recent episode of Pushing Daisies, time suddenly caught up with the golden girl and she does indeed look her age. I think she's perfectly happy finally having a shot at the career she's coveted all these years.

Uh, okay.

No, the only reason she is too old are all the lines on her face. Are you saying she's always looked forty?
And the little girl voice works against her now. It draws attention to how not little girl her face is.
on that note, though...wouldn't Kristin make a fabulous Baby Jane? or an older June in GYPSY! i love it
