Posted: 5/17/05 at 6:53pmI have a bootleg DVD of Kristy as Elphaba. She has a very operatic voice. Different interpretation. She was quite good. In costume, she looked EXACTLY like Idina. Her defying gravity was weak. But her Wizard And I and No Good Deed gave Idina a run for her money. No comparison to Shoshana though. She's great. So is Idina. But my favorite is Saycon -- WOW! INCREDIBLE!

I've heard Saycon and nothing special at all...just eh. As for Kristy, I wouldn't say she has an "operatic voice." She has a more classical style of Broadway singing kind of voice, but not opera. And, I don't know what you people hear when you say Idina "screams," but, to each their own.

Posted: 5/17/05 at 8:09pmI heard her Wizard and I and Defing Gravity, and she definitely has a very different style, but I thought she was just okay. I should probably listen to her some more before I make a permanent judgement.

Come see Kristy Cate's farewell to NYC performance at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre - Monday, 6/6 at 7pm. It's her last nyc appearance before she goes to Chicago to stand by for Ana G.
She's doing a lot of ecclectic stuff - Michael John LaChiusa, Desiree, Vincent Youmans, Annie Lennox, Bobbi Gentry and even some Stephen Schwartz...

Posted: 5/17/05 at 8:44pmShe was better than I had expected. I thought her Elphaba was fine and likable; she has a sweet, pretty voice, which I prefer to Idina Menzel's vocals, which I find are shrill and grating.

Shrill and grating to some, Tony award worthy to others...hehe

Posted: 5/17/05 at 9:14pmShe was the first Elphaba I ever saw and I loved her. I also thought she brought a very humorous side to Elphaba. She really know how to get laughs. And her DG gave me chills.
