Looks like someone is going to be employed for the next decade or so, if history repeats itself! Congrats!

Posted: 3/5/14 at 10:53pmKrysta is one of my favorite actresses, or at least one of the most attractive actresses, I know. I'll be watching just to watch her, so hopefully the show is good!

Posted: 3/5/14 at 11:13pmThe Greta Gerwig news was much more interesting to me when that was announced a few weeks back, especially since she apparently will be involved in the writing as well. If Carter/Bays can infuse some of the Noah Baumbach-style realistic whimsy into their sappy constructions they might find something fresh to do with it. While Krysta is exactly the kind of safe up-and-comer to pick for a show like this, Greta interests me greatly for what they might be able to tap into with her.

talk about one lucky lady. I've always thought she was so meh. Never understood the appeal. I love it when theater actors transition to TV, so I wish her well. I will just be shrugging my shoulders from the other side of the boob tube.
and the history of spin offs aren't a good one. this can't do as well as HIMYM, but time will tell.

Other than private practice and the law and orders none of those are even in this decade. The "spinoff" as we know it isn't what it used to be.
I didn't see "empty nest " on there. And furthermore... "Mamas family"? Really?

We're forgetting the most similar example to this situation: "Parks and Rec" was designed as and originally marketed as a spinoff of "The Office," using its conceptual framework (in an era when mockumentary-sitcoms were still high concept), and using one of the show's current stars as a new character.
It has since outlasted and possibly overshadowed its predecessor.

Posted: 3/6/14 at 11:52pmNor is this being spun-off really that much aberration, spin-offs still happen somewhat regularly. Witness the upcoming BETTER CALL SAUL as well.

Mama's Family started as a skit on Carol Burnett and can be considered a spin-off.
Other than private practice and the law and orders none of those are even in this decade.
NCIS spun off of Jag and spun off NCIS: LA and this fall will bring is NCIS: New Orleans. And, you said "the history of spin offs aren't a good one" and the history goes back to the first spin-off ever. If you had said "The current TV climate isn't really indicative to spin-offs" that would have been a very different statement.
My original list only counted traditional, fictional shows. How about the Housewives and their multitude of spin-offs? Aren't the NJ ones getting a new spin-off? Or the Jersey Shore spin-off.

My "really" was in reference to it being a total flop. It ran two seasons vs HIMYM (a hit) that ran 10.
