re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

I just think it looks a little more- dynamic! A little more Riviera Niteclub kind of poster!
I say that in a very un-bossy way OR at least I hope it doest come over as bossy!

I love the first one too. They both have the perfect flair for a night at 'La Cage Aux Folles' -they sell it!
From what I hear they are both being used for The Playhouse with the second one being used in different colors.

Now being advertised as a 12 week season but the company are under an option for an extra 3 months. Bookings for The Playhouse season are so far much, much healthier than originally expected!

Word from front of house staff last night is that they'll be converting the front stalls into a cabaret setting like at the MCF.

re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

Yep, there are 4 tables at the very front of the stalls and word i heard is the new set design will be steps from the stage down into the auditorium right across its width, like a big, long walk down staircase with tables at he bottom of them.

re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

I have to admit that I prefer the second poster design to the first as the second one looks very dynamic and looks very similar to the 2004 Broadway revival design.

The Menier have a talent for producing great revivals of American musicals in the last few years and I hope La Cage is as successful as Sunday and Little Shop of Horrors in the West End.

BTW, does anyone know if a Little Night Music is still going ahead for this year?

According to the Sondheim Society board it is..apparently auditioning at the moment, and they (SSS) claim that the Menier has taken a block booking for the show from them, although the theatre won't confirm anything to us mere mortals!

'A little Night Music' was mentioned only this week and it all looks set for Nunn's interpretation to hit big this Christmas. No more mention of Emma Thompson at this time sadly.

I read somewhere that Maria Friedman may be involved with A Little Night Music, shame Emma Thompson isn't going to be in it, she would of been fab. Wasn't she in Me and My Girl with Robert Lindsay.

re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

Yea, 'Me And My Girl' was her first musical and come to think of it she hasn't really done another. I haven't actually heard that she isn't doing it, its just that she is the name he really wanted for it. This was back in April /May and nothing else has been said.

Hello to Tracie Bennett and Paula Wilcoxx! I'm a bit surprised that Bennett gave up her role in hairspray for this (did she do it for this? I don't know) as jacqueline is quite a bit smaller. I'm sure she'll do wonders with it though. and yay that a lot of the cagelles and the man playing jacob stayed on! I can continue to feel slightly wrong looking at Nicholas Cunningham's body. :P

re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

Tracie B has been one of my favourite musical actresses since she totally stole She Loves Me at the Savoy. She'll be wondrous.

The set design sounds like a production of Cabaret I worked on about 18 years ago!

Love the second poster. Will definitely see this in the 12 weeks season re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

I don't think she's given up her role in 'Hairspray' -she's been with the show since July last year. Her and Paula Wilcox are perfect casting and they are both very happy I'm sure, not to be taking home the £250 a week that Una Stubbs did from the Menier run.
I just hope this gorge little show finds its audience at the end a very long Northumberland Lane!
Great casting!

re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

A few of you on here knew that all last week i was biting my lip about this but now its been announced.

GRAHAM NORTON opens in 'La Cage Aux Folles' in January!
What more can I say .....except -see it before January 3rd!
He is now in the final stages of contract signing but this all depends on the shows initial success on its transfer next month

Exactly! WHY?

At a very long stretch of my imagination he could play the maid but I cant stretch further than that and that hurts!

re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

Isn't the maid role tradionally played by a black male?

Please, please don't let Trevor Nunn anywhere near A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC! It'll be a very dark Night if he is.

re: 'LA CAGE' to play The Playhouse

he most probably will ruin it.... but i must admit i would be intrigues to see his take on it... he is a trained actor afterall (he trained at central)

but then hey this is graham norton so the camp will come out. who knows?

It could be a good move by the producers to get people in during the cold winter months.
