luvtheEmcee - I totally agree with you about the sets or lack there of! It just seemed like the stage ate them all up. The corn field backdrop was not enough for that big of a stage.

Funny, I had forgotten to mention the music. Well, that should also say something about the show as well. Don't get me wrong, I actually did enjoy the music but as others have said, it's not memorable.

CurtainPullDowner - Yes, at least 2013 if not later!!

2013? I wonder if Esparza would be willing to hang on another 3+ years, after nearly 5 years in development?

That was just an estimate, nobody was saying it was the projection. I certainly hope it wouldn't be that long, but you never really know. Worse things have made it in less time, but the last thing I would want to see them do is rush this before it's ready.

Raul really loves this show. I think he'd probably try to stay involved, though it's not like he'd have to be "waiting around" for it. This thing has supposedly been going out of town for YEARS before this production, and he's always worked in the interim.

To those fortunate people seeing this show more than once, I'd love to hear about the evolution of the production in previews. We already know from Brooke that there is a new song (which I assume means a new song replacing an existing song). I have never been a fan of "Do Whatcha Gotta Do" so I'm hoping for the hatchet on that one.

Brooke already got a new song? That's good to hear. I bet it replaced "Do Whatcha Gotta Do" - a catchy song, but really nothing great.

I don't know who's got the new song. Brooke and Raul did an interview on a morning show out there and she said something like "we have a new song." Didn't really specify.

"Do Whatcha Gotta Do" was still in it yesterday. I really wasn't expecting much based on this thread but I thought it was great. They need to find a way to center the show a little more but it was wildly enjoyable.

Music: I loved the score. Rise Up along with its reprise was a good parallel storytelling device. All the tent revival scenes were amazing. I love how the last one was so much darker, raw and sexual almost. Are You on the Bus was just fantastic and got the most applause out of a rather "ehh" audience. That is of course until the end when everyone shot up to there feet. Kendra and Brooke's number in act two gave me chills. Kendra can really sing. This wasn't the best score review but all I can say is that I really liked the score and the lyrics were not bad as Glen Slater's reputation led me to believe. The songs I enjoyed the most were "Slingshot","Rise Up", "Are You on the Bus", "People Like Us", "Jonas' Soliloquy", "Leap of Faith" as well as all the songs in the Revival scenes.

Cast: Raul is fantastic. I do not know how his voice is not dead yet but his voice and acting were the best of the show.

Brooke was a better actor than singer and she just doesn't have the vocal quality of the rest of the cast. All of her songs were not hard though.

Kendra: Had a great brother-sister chemistry with Raul and has an amazing belt.

Nicholas: Had a great voice and was a good actor

Jarrod Emick: He did good but I do not like the character.

The Angels of Mercy: Kecia as Ida Mae had an amazing voice as did Krystal Joy. There harmonies were all on point.

Townspeople: All amazing dancers and they did a great job.

Set: Simple but effective. I loved the tent set.
Lighting: Really effective. I love lighting and this did not disappoint.
Costumes: Good. Nothing really stood out. That mirror jacket was cool.
Choreography: I enjoyed all the Chereo and thought that the transitions were effective and did not get tired of them. The dancing during the last tent revival scene added to the overall darker feel.

The ending tied everything up well and I loved the whole last sequence. The act one finale also was amazing, a great point to go to intermission. Sorry this review isn't very well thought out but if anyone has any questions about the show as of yesterday feel free to ask. I found it a very very enjoyable show.

Is that the one with the absurd red jacket thing and the leather pants? I'm sorry, I just can't stop making fun of that.

Really glad you liked it. :)

Haha yup that one. It really makes no sense that he would wear that but I just think it was interesting to make that one almost evil. It shows you how they were manipulating the people the whole time it was just more "fun" before. I don't know if that actually makes but...

I love how he goes from a normal black suit to the MIRROR JACKET to black and leather. Really strange symbolism. Not sure if that's what they were thinking but it kind of takes that on. Though I think some of the costumes need an overhaul...

Grrrr I want to see it so badly. LEAP OF FAITH Previews

Lets hope it makes it to Broadway soon. 'Cause I want the album. :)

OH one more little thing, I do not recall Raul having a beard nor did the person I saw it with. Updated On: 9/18/10 at 05:41 PM

That too. I did see something about a new demo that was going to be available on iTunes, though. I don't know any specifics.

Interesting review/comments:
Leap of Faith could use more Faith - Wendy Worthington

-They replaced Something Real with a new duet that is now mainly sung by Raul with Brooke adding some of Rise Up. I really enjoyed it!
He still had the beard as of last night! Hehe.
They recorded Leap of Faith for a Broadway sampler album featuring songs from shows that will be opening this season. They were the only out of state show that were asked to be on the album.

Have to say I agree.

Guess there will be something new every night, so we'll see what else is new tonight!

Well, they certainly could have afforded to lose that song. Lame and redundant. The only good thing about it was the costuming.

Not necessarily, since they probably need to give choices more than one performance to calibrate, and then see how it works a few times, rather than giving things the axe if they're not right on day one.

a) Wendy Worthington is not a "reviewer" - she's an actress with a blog.

b) no reviews of this show have appeared. The posts contained in this thread are people's thoughts, and mostly young people's thoughts.

c) I'm sure the very professional people down at the Ahmanson are looking at the show daily and doing their work.

Is the Broadway sampler that includes songs from "Leap of Faith" available yet on iTunes? I certainly couldn't find it. Any help perhaps the CD name would be greatly appreciated!

I didn't say she was a reviewer. The form and content of her blog post make it a "review", no matter how unofficial or personal. For that matter, my comments, along with anyone else who has seen the show, can be called a "review".

I thought what she had to say was interesting and very insightful. Yes, it's barely into previews and has a long way to go yet, and there is plenty of time to fix things. It'll be interesting to see that process as it happens.

Then you should have said through Sunday. LEAP OF FAITH Previews Of course it's going to happen gradually; you can't just throw everything new in at once, and the changes happen in spurts.

More than I'm curious about what the LA critics think when the time comes, I'm curious to see how much non-local coverage it gets, if any.

The posts contained in this thread are people's thoughts, and mostly young people's thoughts.

As a (comparatively) young person, must we make that differentiation? Yes, many young people aren't the best gauges, they're not experienced, whatever. But I find the general implication that if thoughts come from a "young person," they matter less, or they can't be valid to be a little bit offensive.

Haha! Sorry about that! My thoughts tend to come in spurts at the moment and I keep thinking about things I should have added.
