Is this a play or musical? Comedy or drama? Synopsis?
Thanks!
Its a musical. Go to www.MTIShows.com you can read about it and hear songs etc.
Lend Me a Tenor is NOT a musical.
It's a farce with a little bit of music (opera, to be precise). If directed well, it's an absolute hoot.
Lend Me a Tenor is not a musical...it is a slapstick comedy. I was in it a few years ago...done right, it is a VERY funny show. It's almost in the style of "Noise's Off." Not the story...but the way it's acted. I played the Bellhop...a very funny featured role. It's written by Ken Ludwig, who also wrote the book to Crazy For You. At the end of the production the entire show is re-told in a seven minute sped thru while this opera music is playing in the background. It's a complicated story...but I'll try to find a good synopsis.

Very funny play of mistaken identities, slamming doors, etc. Just google it and you can find synopsis, etc.
I saw this done here in san diego. it's a very funny slapstick farce that employs a bit of opera music when needed... though the production I saw used pre-recorded tracks.
Usually I'm not so into farce, but this show is a hoot. I saw it on Broadway with Tovah Feldshuh, Philip Bosco, and Jane Connell. All wonderful.

anyone know how to acquire the rights to produce this play?
I stage managed this show once and have seen two other productions. Very funny! Samuel French controls the rights to this show.

There's a hilarous clip with the always-great (not to mention incredibly hot) Victor Garber and Philip Bosco on the Plays collection of Broadway's Lost Treasures.
Yes and he was also Tony-nominated for the role and lost the award to Bosco.

It is my friend's absolute favorite play of all time, and she is actually directing a production of it later this year. I've never seen it, but it sounds hilarious.
I played The Bellhop last summer too FOAnatic! The best part in the whole show! Come in, be funny, leave, come back in, be funnier, leave again, etc.

There was a very successful production in Chicago 15 years ago, it ran for two or three years. It is a very funny show.
I played Saunders in a high school production. So much fun. Although in response to FOANATIC's post, our "speed through" of the entire show was done in about 2 minutes as opposed to 7. Needless to say it got a little crazy.
The bell hop rocks!! My high school did this and we took it to the Fringe Fest in scotland. Very funny show.
