The thought of Constantine singing Empty chairs and Empty Tables leaves me at a loss for words.
He cant quite sing because on Idol he never got to sing properly. All these contestants with a theatre background suppress their voice. Look at Katherine. She was so much stronger when doing that little off the cuff duet with Bocelli than she ever is when putting on her phoney pop voice. Perhaps the right environment he could get back to his roots?
I know many people have their favorites.
There are a handful of really credible former Valjeans that have brought justice to the role for many years. From Colm, to Craig to Randall to J Mark McVey, and that's just the American actors, except for Colm. All made this character the hero he is and 2 hold the record for doing it. If you tallied up just these 4 actors stint with Les Miz you would have 20 years + of playing Valjean with a great deal of success. You can't argue with the track record.
Unless you have seen all of them perform the role , then and see them performing now in various concerts, you really have no idea how good they all still are. Every one of them are consistantly working.
In my opinion, Mr. Mackintosh is no fool. He will call on someone who has a proven track record to recreate the magic once again. And he will be wonderful.
Regardless of who is cast, the crowds will flock to see Les Miz again.
Oh Lord say that isn't true!!! I can't stand Constantine..I seriously believe he would suck so bad as marius.

No, he CAN'T sing. I saw him in Rent and it was in a word, awful.

Hey! Who remembers Ricky Martin? Anyone? Bueller?

There is certainly excitement about the Les Mis revival, this subject keeps coming up often. For some reason(just a feeling I have), I don't think there will be stunt casting this time. After all Rosie, apparently, got turned down. It sounds like they are nearing the end of auditions, so we should hear some more casting news soon. What I am also anxious about is if there is going to be a cast recording of the revival and/or the upcoming Hyde Park concert. I am still trying to be hopefull despite some people's skepticism.

Rumor has it that they are making a point of casting interracially. The callbacks have been reportedly ethnically diverse. I think that they will try to use names known to the Broadway community, but their "stunt" casting will be primarily about untraditional casting.

Cute.
Lizzie-I was just about to bring up Ricky Martin but I see you beat me to it
Don't remind us!
I have a feeling that no mistakes will be made with this cast though...

I edited my last post. Anyway, watching the Daytime Emmy's made think of this question: could you see either Kathy Brier or Renee Goldsberry being in Les Mis? If so, what role(s)?

Wasn't Ricky Martin in Les Mis before he became famous?
Ricky Martin was famous?
"Constantine Maroulis has been talking of doing a Broadway show soon...maybe he'll be Marius"
Has anybody else heard this? This would be awful. I wonder if he'd give that ugly look he gives to every camera to the audience. Oh G-d no!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda. But he still sucked.

Yes, you can say Ricky Martin was "kinda" famous when he joined the cast of Les Mis. I remember the "Entertainment Tonight" story about Ricky joining the cast.
Gary Beach is Thenardier
Heard that already, in another thread. I'd like more confirmation from outside BWW, though...
I'd really like to see Julia Murney as Fantine.
It could work.

I think Lea Solanga is Fantine.
Gary Beach is Thenardier and Norm Lewis is Javert.
I highly doubt that. She's going to have a baby and has made it clear she wants family time.
And it's spelled Salonga.

Pardon me for the spelling...We will see I guess .
I wish they wouldn't cast actors who have done the role thousands of time before (i.e. Schulman or McVey). Let's get some fresh blood in this revival!

Sorry, I don't agree with you on having a new Valjean - especially if this is a short run. Doesn't make sense. A role needs time to work into - especially one as taxing as this one - with no pre-Broadway runs and like 2 weeks of previews - that would not give a new Valjean time to really get into the role as a seasoned vet could do. I think casting of other roles to newbies would be fine - but, not Valjean. Of course, I'm a bit prejudiced since I want to see J. MARK MCVEY back in the role!!!!
