Its such an ensemble piece though. Yes Valjean has a demanding first 45 mins but its hardly Mamma Rose. He has plenty of off stage time and a less than strenuous second act to sing (not that its easy but all the high belt is in the first act). As he gets "older" anyway its not high high energy..more an inner determination.
All for some new casting as if they do record this revival I would like someone fresh. Very frustrating that all the English language recordings feature Colm or that TERRIBLE C+W guy on the International Recording.

Someone mentioned Lea Salonga earlier. I've always wondered how you pronounce her name--first and last?
Lay-uh suh-lahn-gah.
Just how it looks, if you follow Filipino/Spanish pronunciation rules. (Not hard at all.)
What about Judy Kuhn for Fantine ... such a shame she never made back to Broadway with THE WOMAN IN WHITE. It'd be great to hear her sing I Dreamed A Dream.
Rumors abound!

Eden?...hmmm. I'm not sure what I think about that.
I do love Eden... but for Eponine? O_O O_O O_O
I don't necessarily think Eden has the typical look for Eponine, but have no doubt that she could sing the hell out of the score and bring something fresh to the role. I'm all for it.
Kev, who also loves the idea of Judy Kuhn as Fantine
I'm all for the Eden as Eponine or Fantine thing if it's true, she's got a pretty "cry" going on over at the Gerswhin right now, she could totally sob her way through Eponine (or heck, Fantine if that's the way this is going) if she wanted to.
"Eden Espinosa, according to rumor, has been offered FANTINE.
And Lea Michele will be playing Eponine."
That is from the link Lizzie put up.
I would love to see Eded as Eponine, but as Fantine it kind of makes me kringe. Her voice is too young and not rich enough. Fantine should be Judy Kuhn or Elaine Paige.
Oh I dont know about that she has a similar look to Sophia Ravagaleas. One of London's longest running Eponines and the focus of its ad campaign for a good few years. I think she would be perfect and could show off her nice legit middle range.
Fingers crossed they get someone older for Fantine.
I have a poster with Sophia on it (from that "the one and only" campagin) - and have had several people ask me if it was Eden.
Lea Michele?!
Makes me wonder if/how many other former Les Miz kids are going to be in this. Or are trying.

On that note, Mr. Mackintosh, could we get Aris Sas as Marius, please?
Love,

Lea Michele?
My first thought... "Is she OLD ENOUGH to play Eponine?"
Then I do the math.
I think I'm getting old. It doesn't SEEM like Ragtime was that long ago...

If these rumors are true I will give Lea Michele as Eponine, and Eden as Fantine a chance, and wait until I hear the cast recording(if there is one)to form an opinion on what I think about them vocally . The latest I have heard on a casting recording is that they have not decided yet (seeing as they are still planning the production), I e-mailed the Cam Mac company and that was their reply to me.

I believe Lea Michele is about 20 now (yes, we're all getting old!)
I hope the Eponine rumor is true. She is an amazing actess - did anyone actually *watch* her in Fiddler?
She'll be starring in Spring Awakening at the Atlantic Theater Company this summer if you want to see for yourself. I can't wait :)

Lea Michele will be 20 by the time the show opens. Thank you internet movie database. No, I have not seen Lea in anything, it does sound like you did though Trina55. Asumming I am right, what did you see her in?

Ragtime and Fiddler, and probably Les Mis as well but maybe just as Young Eponine - i don't remember. I also read great reviews of Anne Frank in Maryland and the Spring Awakening concert at Lincoln Center ("a star in the making").

In this article down here in Southern NJ about THROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE- It said Sutton was doing Les Mis, which doesnt make sense since she's in DROWSY CHAPERONE- stupid press.
I think Andrea Rivette would be the perfect Fantine!
