I believe she won a Golden Globe for this role.
Emily Blunt Singing

@ Schmerg: One Day More could be pretty damn epic if they did it right. They'd have the advantages of more people (like in the TAC) and being able to actually march through the streets of Paris, like you said.

Bryce Dallas Howard would be another great casting choice for a number of the girl roles. She sang at the end of A Tale of Two Cities demo CD, I quite like her voice.
Okay here's my dream cast:
Valjean: Russell Crowe
Javert: Kevin Kline (although I might swap Crowe and Kline in their roles)
Fantine: Anne Hathaway
Marius: Ben Barnes
Cosette: Bryce Dallas Howard
Eponine: Emily Blunt (although deep down I want to do it)
Thenardier: Bill Nighy
Madame T: Julie Walters
Enjolras: Not sure...
Glad to see more people think Ben Barnes could be a great Marius. :)
I think Neil Patrick Harris would be really cute as one of the Friends of the ABC. He's got such a babyface I don't think his age would be all that much of a problem.
Ooh, agreed about Julie Walters! She'd be wonderful!
I'd like to see a skilled Broadway actor as Enjolras... in a cast of celebrities, there should be at least one talented 'unknown' who goes on to great things.
As for Kline as Javert... hmmmm... interesting thought, but somehow I don't see it. Though he's never let me down yet in a role.
What an opportune time for Lea Michele to get to play one of her dream roles in something besides a concert. She practically already auditioned for Eponine on national television!

Yeah, Enjolras has got to have a very strong voice and the ability to belt. Most 'singing' actors don't have either.
And he's gotta be HUNKY. :) That's a personal preference, though. I hate wimpy Enjys. Like I said, Ramin Karimloo (and his six pack) is my favorite one.
And yes to Lea Michele as Eponine!

Schmerg, the way you described One Day More sounds exactly like "Dancing Queen" in the Mamma Mia movie. Just sayin'.
LOL, Danny's right!
Now I'm having strange mental images of all the revolutionaries doing choreographed 70s dance moves on a pier.

HAHAHAHAHA, that is a brilliant image. I've never seen that movie, but I have seen the opening number, so I think I know what you're talking about.

oooooo i think i hav a really strong suggestion for Fantine because i think she types in perfectly except idk if she can sing or not so if she doesn't sing then just disregard this whole thing, but i would really LOVE to see Kate Winslet play Fantine. wat do u think?

THAT, Schmerg, only I'm picturing it with Enjolras and Grantaire and Feuilly and all them. LOL!

Lea Michele for Eponine?
I want to go with the original London Thenardier Alun Armstrong. (I like watching him on "New Tricks.")
How about Cyndi Lauper for Madame Thernadier?
I second Lea Michele as Eponine!
and while she's at it..Elphaba!
Danny Megs, Kate Winslet CAN sing well, but it's a very pure sound, not a belter voice like Fantine generally has. Also, I don't know how convincingly she could play someone dying of consumption, though I think personalitywise, she'd be lovely in the role. When she was younger, she might have been a great Cosette.
I can see Rob Marshall doing it & cutting out 3/4 of the score.

Well the Broadway production cut about 20 minutes of music. I think by the final cast, Gavroche was being played by a puppet.

Fantine- Celine Dion
Eponine- Kelly Clarkson
Cosette- Anne Hathaway
JVJ- Hugh Jackman
Marius- Michael Buble
Enjolras- Josh Groban
Javert- Alan Rickman or Kevin Kline

Then he'd stage the remaining songs as fantasy numbers that take place inside Jean Valjean's mind. Since he doesn't believe people should sing directly to each other in a movie musical.
Back to the topic, I'm kind of indifferent on the idea of a Les Miserables movie musical. I'd much rather see Miss Saigon made into a movie.

Er, the Daily Mail isn't a very credible source. Are there any corroborating sources?

There's the article, but it says it got the info from the Daily Mail.

I love me some Kelly but she'd have to drop a few to play Ponine. Not saying that to be mean either.

I don't think Kelly Clarkson has the right voice for Eponine. Les Mis needs big theater voices, and while I do like her voice, people will hear her and say "this is not 1800's France".
