i know i'm kvetching -- i've had this conversation with david lewis -- i just need to see some new magic -- where is the patti of MY generation?

You people don't get it. I saw the show a few weeks ago.
This isn't some Forbidden Broadway impersonation stretched out for an hour - the original Patti LuPone Les Mouches show was such a specific sampling of that time in New York and in pop culture.
Leslie Kritzer is Patti LuPone at Les Mouches is a one-woman play, wherein Kritzer plays LuPone, not for the sake of playing LuPone, but as an incredibly interesting journey into the time capsule of New York 1980.

Quite brilliant, on so many simultaneous levels. Leslie's voice is an amazing instrument, and the song list and arrangements by David Lewis are as good as cabaret gets--better, even.
So if it were Leslie singing those songs, with no Patti element, it would easily be the best cabaret performance of the year.
Now, add to that the celebration of LuPone, for LuPone Lovers, and the gentle loving mockery, for LuPone Laughers. Kritzer, never does an imitation per se, but she captures all the nuances, giggles, snorts, grimaces and ego of LuPone.
And the notes that come out of her mouth--they're astonishing!
At several points, Kritzer-as-Lupone seems as good as Midler--then you stop to think "Hey--why didn't LuPone become the next Midler?" Then you think, "Maybe Kritzer can..."
I'll post more tomorrow about the individual songs. Short version: Her "Meadowlark" was excellent, although Patti's was legend-making; and "Mr. Tambourine Man" came close to re-definition in Kritzer-as-Lupone's hands. It was haunted and haunting, and she made the song fresh.
After this I would see her in anything.

LOVED THE SHOW! Leslie was fabulous. Her 'Meadowlark' and 'Rainbow High' were thrilling...her voice is gorgeous. Rich, powerful, full, colorful, a really beautiful instrument. And David Lewis' arrangements were killer. Each song had so much drive and passion in the arrangements.
Kudos to all involved. A really fun and exciting evening for diva lovers, music lovers, cabaret lovers, and for people who truly believe heaven is a disco!

I saw Patti at Les Mouche when I was still in high school. I'm hoping to see Leslie (loved her in Hairspray) the next time I'm in NYC.

I saw her there too, Dottie, with a group of my chorus-boy friends, who are now sadly gone.
Leslie does a really great job with the up-tempos and the loud Patti-blasters, like "Latin from Manhattan" and "Rainbow High." It's fun to seee a girl with a big voice have so much fun playing a girl with a big voice.
She even does "Downtown" the way Patti did.
But the way she did the power ballads like "Because the Night," "Everything I Am" and, especially, "Mr. Tambourine Man" made the event as special as it was--because at those moments it became clear just how talented Leslie Kritzer is.

Oh what a night!
It made me want to swallow poison because I was only 15 when Patti was as Les Mouches...and I missed it..
AND...I will see ANYTHING Leslie does..give this girl a lead on Broadway..I saw glimpses of Patti Lupone, Judy Garland, and especially Laurie Beechman..
SHE IS/WAS SPECTACULAR!

I don't see where anyone would get the notion that she wasn't supposed to be LuPone.
Yes, the show succeeds in transporting you to the era in which it was originally performed, but Leslie is supposed to be to be Patti LuPone.
Perhaps calling it "impersonating" has a negative spin, but truly it is basically what any drag impersonator does, but with a Broadway level voice and amazing delivery.
I thought the show was incredible and Leslie captured every nuance possible. I suppose "incarnation" is a better term for it...

Leslie is/has been fabulous in everything that I've seen her in. And that's a lot.
I will be seeing this cabaret show in November, but I have no doubt that the aforementioned positive reviews are right on the money. She is just great.
