I am not liking it at all...seems too boring...and the top part of the mouth on the plant reminds me of an ENGLISH MUFFIN!

They couldn't find three black women to play those roles?
Don't know, I saw it up on today's news under the StageBLOG on Theatre.com and did a search and did not find anything..if it has, sorry,
The girl who plays Audrey, reminds me of Jane Krakowski when I saw her pics..
thatsa one scary looking plant
Yes, I've always been afraid of the male genitalia...
Why is Audrey wearing glasses?

color blind casting... there is no need for the urchins to be black at all
VERY TRUE, lightguy!
Quite a racist comment.

Helllo Sarcasm....
but actually, I could make a very eloquent argument about this, citing many of the same arguments that get used for affirmative action.
Its one thing to take roles written for default white actors and give them to minorities.
That is making opportunties for minority actors
Taking a role traditionally portrayed by a minority actor and giving it to a white actor (who already has WAAAAY more performance opportunities than a minority) thanks to people to give away their roles to white people or composers and playwrights who don't write roles for them all is something else entirely, and actively is taking work away from minorities.
That's all im going to say about this subject for the rest of the my life on this board, probably. But think about it.

I kind of agree about the urchins... there's something off, not wrong, just not right about the three narrators not being black when they are supposed to be like the Supremes.
I think it looks really boring and I don't think the woman who plays Audrey sings well at all.
Just my opinion....

Nuh uh. Sorry. You can't have it both ways.
Taking a role from a (as you so eloquently put it) default white actor and giving it to a minority is no different than taking a role from a minority actor and giving it to a white actor.
Colorblind casting is colorbling casting. No double standards. You're wrong. Plain and simple.

I agree grail
"Taking a role traditionally portrayed by a minority actor and giving it to a white actor (who already has WAAAAY more performance opportunities than a minority)"
hardly. If any white role can become black that isn't expressly white (i.e. the show involves racism or something) then black people have WAY more opportunities. They get those AND "black" shows.

well the big difference being that the roles for white actors far outweigh the roles of minority actors... so to see a role in which a minority almost always plays and then have a white person play it can be quite offensive to a minority... it's just how it is... i know that i went and saw a play at and it was about the experience of an Asian American family... i didn't get cast but when i saw the play, the role i auditioned for was played by a white guy... is was like... what the f***?!?! i read the director's notes and she wrote something like... colorblind casting worked for this show because it was about family and blah blah blah... i sat there thinking to myself... well then when the hell will you cast a minority in a white role?? yea i was offended....
ANYWAYS.... Mike McShane!!! i sat there going... oh wow... the fat guy from Whose Line is it Anyway!!!!! i always wondered where he disappeared to... and he lost tons of weight.... but his voice didn't sound too suited for Audrey II... i'm so used to hearing deep voices for that voice that his just didn't match...

What the hell is the problem with having 3 black urchins?

If you have a black girl and a white girl who auditioned and the white girl is better, who should get the part?
Anywho, I think that is by far the scariest plant I have seen in any form of the show ( I've seen many various productions) and I think that the simplicity of the sets lends itself to be more about the humbleness that is Skid row.
the plant loosks like a talking sandwhich

I was thinking that exact same thing about Jane Krakowski.
I was thinking it was going to be really good...but I was disapointed. Although, I semi enjoyed the white urchins.
Actually, having lived in London, I can understand the white urchin. She reminds me of so many people I met over there, especially in the smaller towns. I guess in the states we'd call them poor white trash. No insult intended but I got what they were saying as soon as I saw her.
Personally, I was amused looking at the choreography (or lack thereof) of the urchins. They looked like someone had nailed their feet to the floor (Dinsdale lives?)

allofmylife Dinsdale....LOL, love it.
I totally get what you're saying, about the white girl. And across the pond, I totally agree with you and I can see that.
You'll notice that you never see poor white trash hanging out with african americans in media representations in the states.
Really unimpressed buy Audrey II, the "choreo," and performances in general. The set looks nice, but it's a huge step back professionally from The Chocolate Factory's SITPWG.

another thing...when they were interviewing the guy playing Seymour... i couldn't understand his accent and thought he said... there are so many good jews in the show... and i was like... what?!?!?! after listening to it like 10 times in a row... he said tunes.... hahaha....
and i also agree about the jane krakowski thing
and i too also was amused by the third white urchin... she reminded me of that one big white girl from THE LIFE.... know who im talking about?
ehh... I like Little Shop better when it's camped up.

WOW! This looks dreadful to me actually.
It looks exactly like a community theatre production! God.
