While I can't judge this production cause I haven't seen it, I wasn't real impressed with what I saw in the video. I don't have a problem with the urchins being white, but I didn't like the choreography that I saw. Like someone else said, the urchins didn't really move around that much. And the plant looks a little strange....it does kinda look like a garbage can.
I know a lot of people didn't like the revival, but I thought that it had some good things going for it, like the choreography and sets (and the plant itself). I would love to see this london production so I could compare the two.

Well if you're a FAT white women, you are (at least in the theater world) a minority. There aren't many roles you get considered for if you're under 40.
I thought the Audrey was pretty sweet. A different take on the role.

Yeah, didn't look like the best, and yeah the plant looked a bit like a sick muppet, but from the clip I saw two things that I liked
1) Audrey's glasses - They reminded me of Marilyn Monroe in How To Marry A MIlionare, and I thought they were a nice touch.
2) At the end of SS when he grabs her. It just, well, made me smile.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu#55re: LITTLE SHOP revival video in London...

NathanLaneStalker, if you think this looks like a community theatre production, then you have gone to one lavish community with a big budget!
That said, I do think the plant looks like an English Muffin and I would have never guessed that that older man would be doing the voice of Audrey II! Having a white urchin is fine with me too!

The set looked EXACTLY like the set for the one I saw in Jackson, MS. It looks very cheap, but the plant looks wwwwaaaaaaayyyy better than the community theatre production's.
I hope there's a cast recording!

Posted: 2/9/07 at 3:20amHaving already panned this show earlier in the thread let me say that Audrey II was NOT the problem. It was not on the level of the Broadway monster but how could it be? And Mike McShane - remember him from Who's Line Is It Anyway? - was a very funny plant voice. He got some great ad libs in - I think they were ad libs - that brought the house down. A different Audrey II but it worked.

Posted: 2/9/07 at 2:17pmI haven't seen the show itself, so I can't really judge, but my god- The urchin singing the top part needs to work on hitting those notes. Every single one of her top notes in "Little Shop of Horrors" was flat in the video, did anyone else notice that? It was beyond distracting. I also agree with those saying this production seems to lack personality. There's a certain essence I feel is missing... Like I said, I haven't seen it, but as a theatre-goer, based on these clips, I would find somewhere else to spend my money...

Why does the plant look like crap? Because it doesn't look live every other Audrey II that's EVER been on stage?
I think it looks a hell of a lot better than the recent Broadway revival - and even if it's not - I'd prefer a mediocre different take on the show than a mediocre carbon copy of every other production.

I just think it looks cheap. It has nothing to do if it looks like the past plants. This one just doesn't seem to have a personality.
And, again, it looks cheap.

I can't believe so many people are dissing the plant! And what exactly does a man-eating plant from outer space look like then? Just because it's different it doesn't mean it's rubbish.
How can you base what a whole production is like when you've only got a 2 minute video to base it off. If you've been to see it and didn't like it, then that entirely your opinion and I respect that - but don't start saying it's rubbish if you've not even seen it.
Do you know what Howard Ashman said to Frank Oz when he did the film? He said "This is meant to be STUPID". It's not meant to be a spectacular production with huge sets and a cast of thousands, it's completely tounge-in-cheek.
I'm seeing it in April and I cannot wait. I'm going in with an open mind and gearing up for a great day out. =)

It is a fun show. Especially when it's done right. This production is seven different kinds of wrong.

i don't think it looks as bad as everyone is letting on. granted, it doesn't really look Broadway calibur
LOL, like ex-calibur-??? It's calibre, love.

It doesn't look a giant, cheap sock puppet, that's for sure. In fact, that looks like they lost the real plant and had to put one together five minutes before curtain.

#66re: LITTLE SHOP revival video in London...
Posted: 2/11/07 at 11:27amI actually talked to Mike McShane before the show. He said he had that operation where they staple or bypass something in the intestines or stomach - clearly I'm not a doctor. You know the one I mean. Anyway, it worked. He's very happy about it.

Posted: 2/11/07 at 9:11pmI went to see the original show when it played at the Orpheum Theatre on Lower Broadway. That place seated about 300 people and the stage was SO small, there was very little movement. And memory tells me the plant looked pretty tacky. The only thing well-built was Ellen Greene's rack. This show SHOULD look tacky. It's based on a movie shot in TWO days. For me, it can't look tacky enough.
